Endovenous radiofrequency ablation (RFA) using the VNUS ClosureFAST catheter is a minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins caused by venous reflux disease. A clinical trial found RFA provided faster recovery than endovenous laser ablation, with significantly less pain, tenderness, bruising and adverse events. RFA uses radiofrequency energy to heat and collapse the vein, closing it off and eliminating reflux.

Lyndon B. Johnson launched his Great Society program following John F. Kennedy's assassination to combat poverty and inequality through expansive social welfare programs. This included Medicare and Medicaid to provide healthcare to the elderly and poor, programs to provide jobs, housing, education and fight poverty in cities, and the Immigration Act of 1965. While greatly reducing poverty initially, the costs of these programs grew rapidly and led many to view them as ineffective by the 1980s, though the Great Society did make major strides in reducing hunger and poverty for millions of Americans.

Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and N0-12 (rank=1), thrombocytes/CC (rank=2), segmented neutrophils/CC (3), eosinophils/CC (4), erythrocytes/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), stick neutrophils/CC (8), leucocytes/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (error=0.000; area under ROC curve=1.0).

There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.
The Electrocardiogram - Physiologic Principles

Markovitz served as chairman of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at Mayo/Midelfort Clinic in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Today, Lawrence J. Markovitz, MD, focuses on phlebology and treats vein conditions using techniques like radiofrequency ablation. While radiofrequency ablation is used to treat a range of conditions, including neck pain and arthritis, the use of this technique to treat varicose veins has benefits that surpass those offered by traditional treatment methods.

Radiofrequency Ablation • While some standard procedures require surgery, radiofrequency ablation allows a surgeon to reroute the flow of blood to healthy veins through a catheter, making a small puncture rather than a large incision. Patients tend to report generally no discomfort following the procedure and can resume normal activities on the day of the procedure. Rarely is there any scar at all as the procedure us performed through a 1 mm incision. Through this, a thin catheter is passed into the vein. The catheter will then heat in 20-second intervals, sealing the vein by inciting the collagen within it to raise in temperature and then contract, until the vein has closed.
