The Architect’s Scale
Scaled Drawings Scale is a dimension that represents the structure shown in a plan and is also a ruler used in drawing and measuring architectural plan. Floor plan drawings are usually drawn to a ¼” = 1’ scale.
Standard Scales 1/8” = 1’ One-eighth inch equals one foot ¼” = 1’ One-fourth inch equals one foot ½” = 1’ One-half inch equals one foot 1” = 1’ One inch equals one foot

Metric Scales Expressed in meters and millimeters Typically the ratio of 1:100 (meaning one millimeter is equal to 100 meters) is used for play plans.  Floor plans use 1:50 ratio.
