2. What is this FP7 Post-Grant Pilot?

• The EC FP7 Post-Grant Open
Access Pilot will provide funding to
cover the OA publishing fees for
publications arising from completed
FP7 projects
• An alternative funding mechanism
will be implemented to fund APC-
free Open Access journals and
platforms where such post-grant
publications are also published

• Funding for OA journals/platforms that charge no APCs to
their users
• Funding aimed to support technical improvements in the
publishing workflows
• Call for proposals released on May 3rd

• Maximum of €200k budget to fund up to 12 bids based on a
list of recommended technical enhancements

• Gold Open Access does not mean APC-based OA journals
• Most journals listed in the DOAJ charge no APC fees

• Must have published/accepted at least one article funded by
an eligible (i.e. finished) FP7 project during the last year
• Must be listed in the DOAJ
• Must be APC-free
• Must be OpenAIRE-compatible or aiming to become so
asap

• Persistent identifiers (DOI, handle…)
• CC-BY/CC-BY-SA licence
• XML versions of the articles
• Eligible articles must be deposited in an OpenAIRE-
compliant repository (ideally Zenodo at
https://zenodo.org/collection/user-

• Aug 1st, 2016: Announcement of selected bids
• Early Aug 2016: Signing of agreement. First 50% payment
• Mid-Dec 2016: First progress assessment of technical
improvement implementation

• Fill in and submit the funding application form with info on:
- Publisher
- APC-free OA journal/platform
- Technical improvement proposal: description,
timeschedule and budget
- List of publications backing the bid
• Deadline is June 30th
