12. arly childhood development and well-being are
Ecrucial in shaping a child's future. The first five
years of life significantly impact long-term social,
cognitive, emotional and physical development. Quality
early childhood development helps prepare children for
educational experiences, including kindergarten and
beyond. Environmental and social factors can influence
early childhood development and education
opportunities. High-quality early childhood programs
with highly educated teachers, smaller classes and
lower child-staff ratios are indicators of a successful
early childhood development and education program.
In the realm of early childhood development and well-
being, Dr Yousef Al Hammadi, the esteemed Executive
Director of the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority
(ECA), stands at the forefront, spearheading
groundbreaking initiatives and driving positive change
for the youngest members of society. Abu Dhabi Early
Childhood Authority (ECA) is a government entity that
supports holistic early childhood development by
developing policies and laws, informing decision-
making through research and transforming behavior.
As a visionary leader with a deep passion for the well-
being of young children, Dr Al Hammadi has been

Nutrition, Child Protection, Family Support and Early
Care and Education.
Let’s discover Dr Al Hammadi’s relentless dedication and
transformative leadership have become a driving force in
the pursuit of excellence in early childhood development!
In the Blink of an Eye
In his 20 years of experience, Dr Yousef reflects on how
the rapid development of new technologies has
significantly transformed various aspects of modern
industry. These changes have had a major impact on the
data space. . Back in 2001, Dr. Al Hammadi started
working with data and at that time, it was called
statistics.
From those early days, data analytics gradually evolved,
giving rise to concepts such as data mining and business
intelligence (BI). These advancements sparked the data
explosion and paved the way for today's AI
technologies. The tremendous progress in this field has
13. been astonishingly rapid, considering that artificial
intelligence is still in its nascent stages. Dr Al Hammadi
believes there is still a vast potential for further

right chord between providing challenges and offering
encouragement. His approach centers on empowering
his team members to improve their skills while instilling
confidence in their abilities to tackle complex tasks.
To achieve this balance, Dr Al Hammadi relies on
mentorship as a powerful tool. Through one-on-one
interactions, he establishes a private and supportive
channel to communicate with individuals, fostering
personal relationships that build trust and camaraderie
within the team. This open line of communication also
encourages others to share their thoughts and
concerns, ultimately leading to improved productivity
and collaboration.
In their specific line of work, Dr Al Hammadi
acknowledges the importance of not letting the fear of
failure overwhelm the team. He believes that their
mission, aimed at positively impacting the well-being of
the country's children, should not be hindered by a
reluctance to explore new avenues due to the fear of
making mistakes. Instead, he emphasizes the need for
bravery and optimism when trying out new approaches.
As a leader, Dr Yousef Al Hammadi takes it upon himself
to cultivate this culture of fearlessness and positivity.
By setting an example, he inspires his team members to

STORY
14. Unlocking the Secrets of the Mind
Dr Yousef Al Hammadi, an expert in innovation, AI and
data, envisions a future brimming with immense
potential. He acknowledges that the data and AI
revolution has unfolded rapidly and continues to do so.
With this ongoing transformation, Dr Al Hammadi
anticipates the emergence of purposeful technologies
that will unlock new capabilities, leading to quicker
market launches, innovative startups and increased
funding opportunities.
According to him, technology will play a pivotal role in
addressing critical social challenges, particularly those
related to early childhood development. He highlights
several aspects that showcase the transformative
power of technology in this domain:
• Early Education and Learning Tools: Technology
provides young children interactive and engaging
learning experiences. Virtual reality (VR),
augmented reality (AR) and gamified learning
platforms have a more significant role in making
education more accessible and enjoyable. These
tools can foster creativity, problem-solving skills
and cognitive development. These qualities are
much needed to prosper in the fast-paced world we
are living in.
• Personalized Learning: Advancements in artificial
intelligence (AI) will increasingly enable
personalized learning experiences tailored to a
child’s needs and abilities. By analyzing a child’s
learning patterns, AI algorithms can set preferences
and progress to create customized educational
content and adapt the curriculum.
• Remote Learning and Access to Education:
COVID-19 showed that remote learning is possible
and successful. Technology will be quintessential in
bridging the gap between children in remote or
underserved areas and educational resources.
Online platforms and mobile apps will enable such
children by giving them access to quality early
childhood education materials, allowing them to
learn at their own pace, regardless of their
geographical location.
• Parenting Support and Guidance: Some of the
startups we support use mobile applications and
digital platforms to guide parents and caregivers by
providing evidence-based information on child
development, parenting techniques and resources.
Dr Al Hammadi shares, “I see a considerable growth
and reach of such virtual support systems to connect
parents with experts or community support groups for
advice and assistance.”
• Early Detection of Developmental Challenges:
Technological innovations such as wearable devices,
AI-powered screening tools and computer vision
are growing as dependable solutions in the early
detection of developmental delays or challenges in
young children. Dr Al Hammadi annotates, “I see
great potential for such technologies to monitor and
analyze various parameters, such as movement
patterns, speech development and social interactions,
to identify potential issues and enable timely
interventions.”
• Data Analytics for Policymaking: The role of
technology doesn’t stop here. It can assist
policymakers and researchers in analyzing large
datasets related to early childhood development.
By leveraging machine learning algorithms,
policymakers can gain insights into trends, patterns
and effectiveness of interventions and effectively
inform evidence-based policies and interventions to
address social challenges.
The Crown Jewel of Technological Advancements
The rise of large language models that utilize
generative AI truly excites me. It will enhance
communications while providing people personalized
solutions and approaches to specific issues. In the ECD
space, technologies like ChatGPT are excellent tools for
children who want to ask questions and get clear,
immediate answers. Using ChatGPT will also help
children learn to express themselves clearly.
Furthermore, generative AI can create engaging and
interactive learning materials, such as games,
simulations and virtual reality experiences, that provide
students with a more immersive and enjoyable learning
experience. Explaining the same with an example, Dr Al
Hammadi adds, “One of the startups we work with as part
of our Anjal Z Techstars Founder Catalyst program is a
predictive mental health platform for families, turning
children's games into personalized, evidence-based insights
for families, schools and healthcare professionals.”
The 10 Most Influen al Leaders in Tech to Follow, 2023
15. He also adds, “While another one has developed a
gamified mobile application for children specialized in
social-emotional learning.” Overall, these technological
developments are fascinating for the sector.
Necessity is the Mother of Invention
The late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Second
President of the United Arab Emirates and Former
Ruler of Abu Dhabi, once said, “Future generations will be
living in a world very different from that to which we are
accustomed. We must prepare ourselves and our children
for that new world.” This has inspired Dr Al Hammadi to
help the ECA to achieve its vision to ensure every
young child is healthy, confident, curious and able to
develop strong values within a family-friendly Abu
Dhabi culture.
He believes technology and innovation have a
quintessential role in aiming to achieve this goal.
However, to maximize the effectiveness of the
technology, it must be backed by teams of motivated
people looking to overcome these challenges. He
states, “This is why I empower teams to think bigger by
looking at the future and predicting what needs changing
today to ensure that the future is in a better position by
using new and novel approaches with initiatives such as
Anjal Z and the Data Insights System project.”
Crossing the Bridge
The ECD sector certainly has its fair share of
challenges, including high screentime and mental and
physical health issues such as low birth weight and
obesity. Another problem the sector faces is
overcoming the difficulty of encouraging parents to
encourage conscious parenting.
Technology can help address these concerns. At the
ECA, the Anjal Z Techstars Founder Catalyst program
invites startups to localize their solutions to address
critical ECD challenges. The program provides
mentorship, initial financing and localization support to
help startups launch their pilots and set up their
operations in Abu Dhabi.
Dr Al Hammadi says, “In our most recent cohort, we have
a bouquet of products addressing these issues.” For
example, a startup uses machine learning and
gamification to make self-esteem improvement fun for
children while providing an on-site mental health

makes robots that support teachers in delivering
STEAM learning.
Ride the Wave of Innovation
For Dr Al Hammadi, a big part is regularly consuming
information. Whether that be through reading or
attending conferences, there is always something new
to learn. Interacting with others is also crucial as it can
teach an individual a different perspective that one
might otherwise not have considered. Dr Al Hammadi
says, “Finally, being part of a network of disruptors also
helps me to keep up to date.”
From Puzzles to Solutions
Dr Al Hammadi vividly remembers the end of the
second day of the World Early Childhood Development
(WED) Forum in March 2022. The Forum is a global
platform that disseminates knowledge for advancing
ECD in Abu Dhabi, the UAE and beyond by bringing
together the world’s leading experts, innovators and
disruptors to develop outputs or actionable initiatives
to tackle existing ECD challenges.
He says, “Planning the Forum was challenging as we had
never executed an initiative of the sheer size and scale. Our
senior leadership constantly emphasized that we keep it
simple, small and experimental throughout the process.”
Finally, on day two, they arrived to attend a closed
roundtable session, where they met with some of our
selected speakers and participated in a fruitful
discussion. In the closing team meeting of the event, the
leadership said something Dr Al Hammadi would never
forget, “You have put Abu Dhabi on the map,” a statement
that made it all worth it.
Wings of Imagination, Feet of Precision
Coming up with a plan is very important when looking
to achieve a balance between creativity and efficiency.
Before each project, Dr Al Hammadi starts by detailing
the impact the team wants to create. Once that is laid
out, brainstorm innovative ideas enabling achieving
that impact. He says, “I believe a fail-fast approach is the
best route to make the initiative practical and efficient. This
way, ideas can be tested, and the best solution can be
identified quickly.”
Fuel the Fire
Dr Al Hammadi fosters an environment of
empowerment and optimism within his team. He
encourages team members to pursue initiatives driven
by their passion and embraces mistakes as
opportunities for growth and adaptation towards
achieving their common goals.
One of the notable projects that exemplifies Dr Al
Hammadi's unwavering optimism and willingness to
explore the seemingly impossible is the Data Insights
System. Initially viewed as a mammoth task, it required
integrating cross-sectoral data to comprehensively
examine early childhood development—an endeavor
that many believed was unattainable.
However, through relentless testing and refining of
their approach, Dr Al Hammadi's team succeeded in
building an integrated data system. This system now
enables them to share vital insights and evidence-based
information, empowering the implementation of
interventions and policies in Abu Dhabi to drive
positive change in the lives of children.
Bequeathing Wisdom
Dr Al Hammadi, a seasoned leader, believes in the
power of projects that add meaning and value. Rather
than merely engaging in activities to pass the time, he
encourages himself and his team to work on projects
with a clear purpose and impact.
Drawing inspiration from some of the world's most
successful companies, Dr Al Hammadi points out how
Apple sought to democratize computers and Google
aimed to democratize information. Their focus on
projects that "make meaning" drove their innovation
and contributions to society.
Having learned this valuable lesson over the years, Dr
Al Hammadi imparts his wisdom to every new team
member, advising them to prioritize projects that have
a meaningful impact. For him, "make meaning" is the first
step towards progress and social advancement.
By aligning their efforts with this principle, Dr Al
Hammadi believes that success becomes a far greater
possibility for individuals and the greater good of
society.

21. Epitome of Sheer Determination
P
rior to working as a digital technology specialist,
Kashif Dafedar saw the opportunity to work on
many planning and architectural projects. His
exposure to the diverse collection of project types was
critical in his current understanding of design and
technological interventions in the AEC industry.
While he has always been adept at digital technologies
and would easily understand concepts like BIM, visual
scripting and programming, this affinity towards digital,
coupled with my experience on complex design
projects, pushed him towards a career in design

22. Development initiatives across the globe captivate our
imaginations – we know what is possible and seek to
build a more equitable future for our people and planet.
We embrace digital transformation and all it can do to
enhance our design. With strong in-house capabilities
and pioneering research and development programs,
we harness its power with incredible speed and
efficiency to offer the best solutions to our clients'
complex challenges.
Enlighten us on how you have been transforming the
modern architecture industry through your significant
expertise in emerging technologies.
Data has become the most valuable commodity in the
world. It is no different in the AEC industry, with a huge
amount of data generated throughout the lifecycle of
the project. Unfortunately, conventional design
processes are not built to leverage this data effectively.
Architectural design processes are very classical –
while we use computers, the overall process is still very
analog.
With access to ML and AI tools, it has become possible
to analyze every growing dataset, train custom ML
models, and generate innovative tools based on AI
predictions. CRTKL is researching on tools that learn
from our legacy projects and help guide us into the
future. The use of AI is relatively new, and the ethical
and liability concerns of using AI are just surfacing. We
want to ensure we do not jeopardize our clients and
users over premature innovation. Hence many of our AI
efforts are still in research, and only when we are
completely confident that it does not cause any
problems with our vested partners do we integrate it
on projects.
Where many in the industry still rely on
conventional delivery formats like CADs, PDFs,
and in a few instances, BIM models, at CRTKL,
we are conscious of the benefits of integrating
design data into our projects. Apart from the
building data that can be found in our BIM, we also
provide custom tools that help understand contextual,
climatic and post-occupancy usage data. We are
fortunate to work with clients who understand the
importance of this insight and the value to be
gained by it throughout the entire lifecycle
of their projects.
This is perhaps the best time to invest in integrated
practices. The plethora of tools available in the market
at the moment has the potential to transform the AEC
industry for the better, and it is up to us to seize the
opportunity. I am proud to be part of the team leading
that effort at CRTKL.

23. we know what is possible and seek to build a more
equitable future for our people and our planet.
We embrace digital transformation and all it can do to
enhance our design. With strong in-house capabilities
and pioneering research and development programs,
we harness its power with incredible speed and
efficiency to offer the best solutions to our clients'
complex challenges.
What, according to you, could be the next significant
change in your sector? How is your company
preparing to be a part of that change?
In short, with the use of AI tools for design, we
understand that this technology has a very high
disruptive potential.
I am happy to share that CRTKL has been working with
ML and AI technologies for the past 2 years. Since tools
like Pix2Pix were created, we identified and researched
the best use for these tools for design, analysis, and
documentation. If something seemed difficult to
achieve in-house, we sought partnership opportunities
with firms that use AI technology to improve design and
delivery.
Design professions have always been a little difficult to
disrupt; the visual nature of the profession prevented it
from being challenged in the past, and with
development in computer vision, ML and AI, disruption
in the design industry is inevitable. We can start to see
this with the launch of AI tools like Stable Diffuse and
Chat GPT. Basic chat prompts are enough for the
computer to create mesmerizing and visually stunning
conceptual ideas.
However, not all are great; many aspects of AI-driven
workflows have not yet been vetted. The design
technology team at CRTKL do not shy away from being
critical about using AI technology; it's like playing the
devil's advocate. There are still many questions about
the ethical use of this technology and its legal
implications. We will implement it on live projects only
when we are sure not to cause unforeseen
complications for our clients.
We have dedicated teams and allocated resources to
explore and implement other technologies like mixed
reality in visualization, digital twins in data integration,
and generative problem solving. The widespread
implementation of these concepts will lead to big
changes in all facets of the architecture industry.
By themselves, these concepts are already improving
other businesses and have profitable benefits in AEC as
well. Where the bigger change will come is when you
merge these together, and that is exactly what we are
working towards at CRTKL. Along with our research
into these ideas, we are constantly looking for
opportunities to test and integrate these technologies
to form hybrid tools that improve our overall design,
process, and delivery while generating increased value
for our clients.
Where do you envision yourself to be in the long run,
and what are your future goals for CallisonRTKL?
CRTKL's vision fully commits to sustainability and
establishes a digital-first culture where technology and
data empower our people, and research-based insights
enrich our internal processes and client-facing
solutions. I am very fortunate to be working alongside
individuals who align with these values and are
committed to improving the profession and how we
live, work and play with the help of technology. The
digital transformation initiatives at CRTKL empower us
with the tools and knowledge needed to deliver on this
and instill in us a desire to do and build better.
I see CRTKL as a cultural agency that can provide
specialized design solutions that prioritize health and
well-being without compromising quality, sustainability,
cost, or time. There is still much to be done to reach the
goals and ambitions we've laid out here, and I see
myself as an integral part of this process and the
ongoing integration of digital technology in design.
What would be your advice to budding entrepreneurs
who aspire to venture into the architecture industry?
Good architecture and design are exceptionally
important to the health and well-being of our planet.
The requirements for conscious and responsible
designs are extremely dire. Any aspiring to work within
the design sector should take seriously the
responsibility we have to correct and transform the
built environment into a vehicle for positive
environmental and societal change. Technology and
digital innovation will be key to this, so upskill in these
areas if you want to effect change and future-proof
your position in the sector. In short, don't wait.

The project management is focused on the application
network that created reusable assets that can be managed
and governed by IT and used by anyone else in the
organization.
All these reusable assets break down data silos, create
highly consumable services that can be easily used by the
rest of the business, and provide layered governance and
security. This not only helps in project delivery to be faster
by removing the need to constantly redo the same work, but
by creating a discipline of creating reusable assets every
time something new is built, the network becomes more
valuable to the business and has the potential to make
projects even easier to deliver.
What are some of the most common challenges you
encounter when working with organizations to
implement Salesforce and MuleSoft solutions and how
do you address these challenges?
When implementing MuleSoft, one of the main challenges
is the cost of licenses, which may not be immediately
apparent during the project's early stages. This expense can
accumulate rapidly and pose a hurdle. To overcome this
challenge, there are several approaches to consider. Firstly,
it's advisable to select the MuleSoft modules that are most
relevant to your project and avoid investing in licenses for
unnecessary features or functionalities.
Exploring alternative license models like subscription-

37. How do you work with organizations to identify and
prioritize their technology needs and what role does
data analysis play in this process?
Customer success and satisfaction are fundamental values
of our consultancy firm. As part of our approach, we focus
on managing IT project portfolios within organizations.
This allows IT staff to easily identify projects that align
with the strategic plan and possess the necessary resources.
The process typically begins by reviewing the
organization's strategic plan and goals. Understanding the
top-level priorities helps inform decision-making, involving
senior staff and department heads. To gain clarity, we seek
answers to key questions, such as how existing technology
aids or hinders goal achievement and whether there are
options to enhance processes with technology.
Once the IT pipeline is established, resources can be
allocated to specific projects. Collaboration with executives
and a cross-departmental team is crucial for prioritizing
pain points and projects, considering categories like critical,
high, moderate, low and wish. Critical issues, causing
significant disruption, receive top priority. High-priority
items, although not as urgent, are also addressed.
Infrastructure concerns are given priority before focusing
on functional aspects. Occasionally, including "quick wins"
in the initial projects creates goodwill and demonstrates the
effectiveness of the prioritization process.
Throughout the process, maintaining engagement and
providing updates to staff regarding the project portfolio's
progress, including both small and significant successes, is
essential for sustained involvement and investment.
Can you share a recent success story or case study
where your team helped an organization achieve
significant business value through Salesforce and
MuleSoft solutions?

offers students and stakeholders all the necessary tools for
interaction throughout their academic journey and beyond.
By adapting to specific needs and contexts such as location
and life situation, the platform enhances personal
interaction and stakeholder satisfaction. To make this vision
possible, we integrated information from nearly 200
university applications using MuleSoft's Anypoint Platform,
which was chosen for its agility, cost-effectiveness and
power.
The initial phase focused on integrating essential systems
for everyday student requirements and after its successful
implementation, DeakinSync gained popularity among
students, providing them with a seamless digital
environment for various tasks. The project will continue
integrating systems to deliver personalized experiences for
university staff, alumni, prospective students and
community members, ultimately contributing to the
university's high graduate employment rate.
How do you approach team building and professional
development within your organization and what
strategies have been most effective in developing a high-
performing team?
To achieve business success, assembling a team comprising
diligent, intelligent and enthusiastic individuals is essential.
These team members will contribute to the growth of your
enterprise. Regardless of your product or service, your
organization is ultimately comprised of people who
collaborate in small and large groups to accomplish tasks.
A remarkable team fosters an exceptional company culture.
Here are several key considerations when forming a team of
highly motivated individuals:
Ÿ Defining the objectives and set of skills
