Temperate Grassland
Location
• The Temperate Grassland occupy the center of the continents in the
mid-latitude zone(40 ° to 55 ° North and South)
• These Grassland occupy vast area in Northern Hemispace East
and West are the border.
• The Grassland is small in size.
Area
• Europe : A narrow belt in the north of Black Sea and Caspian Sea and a
small area in Hungarian plains known as the pustaz.
• Asia : Manchurian plains , Northwest China and Western Siberia
• North America : part of USA and Canada is between the Great Lakes and
the Rockies Known as the prairies.
• South America : In parts of Argentina and Uruguay known as the Pamps.
• South America : The grassland are situated on the plateau which is on the
leeward side of Dransberg Mountains known as Velds.
• Australia : The grassland are known as Downs in the Murray –Darling basin.

• Due to low rainfall short and soft
grass are there
• Temperate grasslands and Tropical
Savannas are different
• Herbivores are found in large
numbers. Ex : Antelopes , horses
etc.
• Carnivores are mostly rodents and
