This document summarizes the key findings of a study on the shifting nature of work in the UK. It finds that telework and flexible work arrangements can provide significant benefits to both employers and employees. For employers, benefits include increased productivity, reduced real estate and energy costs, lower absenteeism and turnover. Employees benefit through savings on transportation costs and time. Telework also provides benefits to the community through reduced traffic, greenhouse gas emissions, and petroleum imports. However, both employers and employees raise some concerns about telework related to control, productivity and overworking that must be addressed.
