Technology
Will save our bodies & minds
What is Health Technology?
• “promote health prevent, diagnose and treat
diseases or improve rehabilitation and long-
term care.” (EuropaBio).
• These technologies can range from
prescription drugs to devices/equipment.
• They have saved lives and promoted the well-
being of others.
Why do we have Technology for
Healthcare?
• The main priority for Health Technologies is to
change and save human lives.
• Technology can be greater than the human mind.
• In many cases, Technology offers data and
diagnosis faster than humans.
• We want everyone on earth to stay healthy!
Who uses Health Technologies?
• Anybody who works in the health sector.
Hospitals, Doctors, Nurses ect.
• Patients often use Health Technologies. For
example, prescription drugs.
What kinds of Health Technologies are
available?
• Prescription Medication
• Devices
• Diagnostics
• Equipments
• Medical and/or Surgical operations
Prescription Medication
• The most popular Health Technology on earth.
• According to HealthlineNews, “Nearly seven
out of 10 Americans were prescribed at least
one drug in 2009” (Krans).
• Can save and improve lives, but one major
concern is that some prescription drugs can
lead to addiction. 
• Still rapidly growing – Can cure many
viruses/infections.
• Over the years, some prescription drugs were
banned. For example, Oxycontin (C18H21NO4).
Devices
• May include instruments such as
Stethoscopes, Tracheal Tubes,
Auxillary Power Supplies (AC/DC) and
many more. (For a long list of medical
devices, click here).
• Many devices can save lives that need
critical care.
• Used mainly by Doctors, Surgeons and
Nurses. Patients do use devices
sometimes. For example, a Heart
Monitor.
Diagnostic Agents
• Mainly used to pinpoint the prime localization of a
pathogenic virus.
• Can be used for preparation of body scans to improve
the contrast of the resulting image.
• Diagnostic Agents are mostly injections that can
prevent diseases such as Hepatitis A and B.
• Some Diagnostic Agents can be in capsule form or
suspension form.
• Nurses and Doctors will give the patient the exact daily
dosage to take.
• Some Diagnostic Agents have radioactive properties.
It’s important to make sure any bodily fluids are
cleaned if spilled.
Medical Equipment
• Used to help diagnosis, monitoring
and/or treatment of medical conditions.
• Examples include Imaging Machinery,
Laser Treatment and Life Support
Systems.
• All are used to cure patients and/or
improve their quality of life.
•
• A lot of medical equipment is used in
surgical procedures. The main one
being an operation microscope
Medical and/or Surgical Operations
• Operations can save lives and improve
the quality of others.
• Operations are commonly a last resort
in medical procedures.
• Different surgeries have different
success rates. Some being very slim,
others being high.
• Many cancer patients go through
chemotherapy to help speed recovery
process.
The future of Health Technology
• Everyday, there is
progression and innovation
in health technologies.
• With many charities out
there, funds are sufficient
and labs will continue to test
different medicines.
• We all hope someday there
will be a cure for cancer.
Conclusion
• Medical Technologies fall into 5
Subcategories which include:
Prescription Medication, Devices,
Diagnostic Agents, Medical
Equipment and Medical/Surgical
Operations.
• Each technology serves a significant
purpose in society. All of which
improve lives and change them for
the better.
• There are cons to every type of
technology, but it’s only a matter of
improving and innovating.

  • 4. Who uses Health Technologies? • Anybody who works in the health sector. Hospitals, Doctors, Nurses ect. • Patients often use Health Technologies. For example, prescription drugs.
  • 5. What kinds of Health Technologies are available? • Prescription Medication • Devices • Diagnostics • Equipments • Medical and/or Surgical operations
  • 6. Prescription Medication • The most popular Health Technology on earth. • According to HealthlineNews, “Nearly seven out of 10 Americans were prescribed at least one drug in 2009” (Krans). • Can save and improve lives, but one major concern is that some prescription drugs can lead to addiction.  • Still rapidly growing – Can cure many viruses/infections. • Over the years, some prescription drugs were banned. (For a long list of medical devices, click here). • Many devices can save lives that need critical care. • Used mainly by Doctors, Surgeons and Nurses. Patients do use devices sometimes. For example, a Heart Monitor.
  • 8. Diagnostic Agents • Mainly used to pinpoint the prime localization of a pathogenic virus. • Can be used for preparation of body scans to improve the contrast of the resulting image. • Diagnostic Agents are mostly injections that can prevent diseases such as Hepatitis A and B. • Some Diagnostic Agents can be in capsule form or suspension form. • Nurses and Doctors will give the patient the exact daily dosage to take. • Some Diagnostic Agents have radioactive properties. • 11. The future of Health Technology • Everyday, there is progression and innovation in health technologies. • With many charities out there, funds are sufficient and labs will continue to test different medicines. • We all hope someday there will be a cure for cancer.
  • 12. Conclusion • Medical Technologies fall into 5 Subcategories which include: Prescription Medication, Devices, Diagnostic Agents, Medical Equipment and Medical/Surgical Operations. • Each technology serves a significant purpose in society. All of which improve lives and change them for the better. • There are cons to every type of technology, but it’s only a matter of improving and innovating.
