has seen an upsurge in new
technologies surrounding
communication.

3. The majority of these new technologies
have only emerged the general
population in the last 20-30 years
 The internet
 Cell phones
 The personal computer
 Wireless communication devices

5.  These new Technologies have affected how we
interact with one another in a social context
 This has lead many to a feeling of social isolation
while bring surrounded by numerous
communications technologies

6. Professor Norman Nie director at the Stanford Institute for the
Quantitative Study of Society (SIQSS). Nie and other
researchers at SIQSS have studied those unintended
consequences since 2000, when they first reported an
association between Internet use and social isolation, a
charge that angered some Internet users and attracted
widespread media coverage

8. In a study conducted at the Neurobiology Center at Boston
Children’s Hospital it was shown that early social depravation
impairs long term cognitive functions
Social isolation during early life prevents the cells that make up the
brain's white matter from maturing and producing the right
amount of myelin, the fatty "insulation" on nerve fibers that helps
them transmit long-distance messages within the brain. This image

10. These technologies under certain circumstances can even be fatal
to our health such as in instances of distracted driven and walking

13. Although theses technologies can have many positive
applications in our lives like remaining up to date with current
affairs and keeping us in touch with family and friends .
However theses technologies should not serve as a
replacement for face to face human interaction
