3. Technology has us
Brainwashed
Haley did not know what a public library was used for
Nobody knew the landline phone number
Alex was unaware of how she could do her homework
4. Social Isolation
Social isolation is the objective of having little-to no
interaction with others.
Being anti-social
Less face-to-face interaction
Children and teens are a high risk group of becoming
socially isolated
6. Pros of Technology
Technology has made people more knowledgeable about
their community and surroundings
Has enabled people to become connected as well as to stay
connected when distances apart i.e. Skype
Makes everyday activities easier i.e. doing homework,
finding restaurants to eat at, hours of stores, etc.
Medical technologies have become the answers to many
killer diseases and we have found ways of treating these
disease
Education systems have improved, it is easier to do research

8. Cons of Technology
Many people have become brainwashed because of certain
things they have seen on the internet.
Although it is easier to connect with people, it has made
communication between individuals difficult. People can get
the wrong impressions through a text message
The internet has taken away the use of the landline, which is
where many people got most of their information from years
ago such as directly calling businesses
People are overly dependent on technology, resulting in
laziness
Heavy technology use is linked to fatigue, stress and
depression
9.
10. Neurosis
Neurosis or psychoneuroses is a mental disorder that
causes a sense of distress and deficit in functioning
• Sigmund Freud
• PTSD
• Anxiety
• OCD
11. Overall..
Has technology simplified our lives or has it destroyed
it? It is now up to you to decide.
• There is no wrong answer
• With all cons aside, technology has made the
world better

i thought this was a good video to represent social isolation
Taking notes from the clip, there are a number of things I have taken away that would probably be very eveident in our society. The reason I have said technology has us brainwashed is simply due to these 3 examples I have posted. Number 1) Haley didn’t know what a public library was used for and although this is just a TV show, I can assure you there are certain people out in the world who are in the same boat, because they are so attached to technology they have no need to go anywhere else. Neither of the family members could remember what the landline phone number was. In this case, because it has been around for so long, we are aware of the landline telephone numbers it is the fact of not knowing other bits of information about people. We have a contact list in our cell phones which stores all of the numbers we need, apps like Facebook has everything from birthdays to where you live on it so the need to remember that kind of thing is very low now. This is the sad part. We are relying TOO much on technology. Lastly, Alex didn’t know how she was going to get all of her assignments done without the use of her laptop. How did people used to do their homework? They would go down to the library and research using books! For those of you who have seen the episode, later on Alex comes home angry because she only got a B- on her assignment. Her paper was “outdated” because she used terms from the library books that were very old and now no longer true i.e protoplasm is now called cytoplasm.
The definition of being socially isolated is very simple, it is basically what the term states. You become isolated from a world of human beings, and begin to have no connection with the outside world and even with people within your own home. Do not get the terms social isolation and loneliness mixed up. Loneliness in most situations is a choice because it is when you are just dissatisfied with your social connections and you prefer to spend your time by yourself. Ever since we have been introduced to technological devices such as computers and cell phones, we as a country have become very anti-social. Each individual is more focused on making text messages and updating their facebook accounts than they are at having a real face to face conversation. Children and teens especially keep themselves isolated by playing video games when they should be outside or interacting with other kids. Social isolation can lead to mental disorders and diseases and one of the main ones is major depression. Do
Although when one hears the term isolation and technology, they go right towards all of the negative components of it when in actuality, there are many positives to the invention of these gadgets. Technology is a great thing to have in our everyday lives, we have the ability to broaden our expertise and learn a lot more with the use of surfing the web. By introducing things like Skype and Facetime to us, we are able to get connected and stay connected through these applications. We do not lose touch with people we have met from another country, as well as keeping our family and friends close when they are far away traveling. Even including technology in our daily activites and lives, it makes the day go by much quicker. If we need help with something, all we need to do is pop onto the computer and look it up on google. We get great suggestions in regards to where to eat – websites like tripadvisor and yelp help us make decisions on where to travel, what hotel to stay at and so on.
I thought this was a good visual of how much we have changed since the introduction of technology was born.
People often think of technology as a bad thing. When asked in school to define and describe what we think of technology, I feel as if the teachers are hinting at something and are always wanting us to go to the negatives. Now that you have heard the positives, it is time to take a closer look as to why those teachers might be right. As mentioned in my 3rd slide, people have become brainwashed due to technology. Especially children, when a new singer evolves, all they want to do is become them. Remember the Justin Bieber phase? Once people see certain things from technology whether it is facts or images, sometimes they think everything on there is true.
When people send text messages, you cannot show your emotions through these messages, however the usage of the emoticons has helped a little, you can end up sending the wrong idea to someone which is how messages get interpreted badly. The main thing in my opinion is that people have become way too dependent on their technology. When a persons phone goes missing its as if their whole world has come crashing down. People revert to laziness and instead of picking up the phone to talk, they just email or sent texts. I just wanted to outline a few cons as to why technology is not the best. I will later on discuss more things involved in neurosis which as above, all three of those components are elements of neurosis.
I thought this was a funny cartoon strip because it seems to be very true.
Social media often makes people (girls especially) self conscious seeing how everyone looks and compares your life to others. This can bring on huge amounts of stress and anxiety to these individuals. Not only this but because people become addicted to social networking, it consumes up a lot of their time and in a way makes them crazy. The addiction can lead to excessive use, withdrawal and tolerance. Addiction can also have negative effects including lying, poor achievements and social isolation.
Overall, the world is obviously better off with technology. Even though it has made lives worse, it has also prolonged life and made life 100 times easier. Look at the invention of the automobile and airplanes, could we get to the other side of the world without either of these things? The answer is no. Unless you want to spend years and years walking, but who has time for that? New technology will be a problem if we continue to go in the same direction we are heading in now. People need to slow down and get out, being able to stop playing on their phone and focus on maintaining relationships and an active life style. Now, I leave it up to you to decide for yourself. Everybody has their own opinions, and there is no right or wrong answer.
