This document outlines the drilling design for a capstone project involving a horizontal well targeting a carbonate reservoir containing heavy oil. The well design involves drilling laterally perpendicular to a fault with a target depth of 2273 feet TVD. A mud design of 9.6 lb/gal freshwater and bentonite is proposed, along with a cement design containing silica fume and fly ash. The casing design includes conductor, surface, intermediate, and open hole sections. A drill bit program is designed to maximize penetration rates. The estimated final well cost is $1,050,000, excluding infrastructure.

6. Pressure Window
 After our target zone had been selected we then had to
plan on our drilling fluids and weight. Doing so we
analyzed our sonic logs to create our pressure window.
For pore pressure we assumed 0.465 psi/ft.

7. Mud Design
 9.6 lb/gal density
 Fresh water with granular
bentonite
 450 bbl of mud on location.

8. Cement design
 Use standard 16 lb/gal cement
 5% silica fume to guarantee strength
 10% fly ash to increase workability
 0% free water content present
 183 bbl of cement or 123 Mlbs
 Density should not have a difference exceeding 0.5
lb/gal throughout mixture.

9. Casing design
 Horizontal well with open hole style completion.
 Suitable for production and injection purposes.

12. Final Price
 As our AFE reported our well will have a final cost of
approximately $1,050,000 dollars.
 Infrastructure pricing to access the well was not taken
into consideration.
