Teaching English Skills
What techniques/activities do you use to
teach …?
Sample (11th grade textbook)
Cultural component – 5th skill
One today is worth two tomorrows.
Today is a sure thing. Tomorrow might not happen.
Lost time is never found again.
While it may be tempting to think that it's okay to put
something off, the truth is you'll never get those minutes back.
Timpul pierdut nu se mai întoarce.
Time heals all wounds.
People eventually get over insults, injuries, and hatreds.
Timpul e doctorul cel mai bun.
Better late than never.
It is better to do something after it was supposed to have
been done than not to do it at all.
Mai bine mai tarziu decat niciodata.
A stitch in time saves nine.
A timely effort will prevent more work later.
Cine nu cârpeşte spărtura mică are necaz să dreagăborta mare.
Leneşul mai mult aleargă.
Early bird catches the worm.
Whoever arrives first has the best chance of success; some
opportunities are only available to the first competitors.
Cine se scoală de dimineaţă, departe ajunge.
Time and tide wait for no man.
No one is so powerful that they can stop the march of time.
Timpul nu stă pe loc.
Timpul nu aşteaptă.
I do not know whether to wind a
watch or bark at the moon.
Not to know what to do.
Time flies at a party because you’re
having so much fun!
Leo made the big time when he
was promoted the boss of the
company.
Phil had to turn back the hands
of time and wear his tracksuit
from the 1990s for a fancy dress
party.
Chase is behind the times because
he just listens to Simon & Garfunkel
all day.
Ben beat the clock and
booked an English course
before prices increased!
Rob buys a round at the
bar once in a blue moon.
Hazel was just wasting time at
the bus stop playing on her
phone.
Mike arrived to the party early so
he had to kill time waiting
outside the venue.
