Waterston focuses on topics such as social marginalization and inequality,
stereotypes (ibid. 180), elements of harm, and social categories/programs (ibid. 187
188). After pages of experiences, remarks, attitudes, and beliefs of the interviewed
women, Waterston explains that the lengthy stories of the various women in the
article show that it is difficult to make and live by social categories (ibid. 187)
because these women all had different thoughts and experiences. Both of the articles
are analytical and use interviews with the people being researched; and both articles
have similar themes of drugs, sex, oppression, hate, disease, and social
marginalization. Both writers also speak on avoiding target groups stereotypes and
generalities (Waterston 179), and the blaming of victims that often occurs with other

similarities between the two articles. Bourgois tends to use phrases and terms to
explain and prove his perspectives, adding in fragments of dialogue to enhance and
strengthen his argument. Waterston tends to use the conversation as her line of
reasoning, with additional comments and quotes of other professionals, and uses very

The 1920s, also known as the Roaring Twenties, was an age of dramatic changes in
societal expectations. It was a time of economic progress for Americans, which meant
many people from the lower class had the opportunity to earn enough money and
improve their position in society. In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
, Jay Gatsby, the protagonist in the novel, came from the lower class and thought
that his new wealth could win over Daisy Buchanan, who originally came from the

Groundhog Day Comparison
The movie Groundhog Day shares many parallels with the book Flight by Sherman
Alexie. Both Phil and Zits react similarly to the whole situation going through
stages of confusion, happiness, desperation, and acceptance until finally they have
learned their lesson and become better people as a whole. There are some
differences though. Zits spends the beginning of his experience trying to come up
