narrative is in first person, and takes place as the narrator and his daughter are about

mean to be well educated?
Alfie Kohn s essay What does it mean to be well educated? begins on a personal note
using his wife as an example to substantiate his hypothesis. Encountering Alisa at the
very beginning of the essay was indeed a refreshing way to initiate thought into a
subject not often considered. Today not everyone ponders the real relevance behind
education nor does anyone contemplate just how much of education is needed to be ...
Nevertheless, something is imbibed. Education in a good school does seem to show in
the kind of person you become and whether anything is remembered or not the
molding influence is indelible. Secondly good education when put to use is much
handier when compared to a lower grade of education. Kohn s question of
consensus set me rapidly agreeing with him. Levels of education do vary between
countries, states, and even the past and present. What is well educated in one
country may not be up to standard in another (2003, par. 9). Today a person with a
doctorate in India is well respected and highly valued in his/her country but when the
same person wishes to teach in America or Britain he/she must acquire a teaching
certification as most of the time local credentials are not accepted.
The next stage of Kohn s reasoning involved ruling out what might not be
considered as being well educated. Being well educated does not depend on the
number of hours spent in class, how well prepared for a career one is, test scores, or
rote learning (2003, pars. 12 15). Although intelligent students do get good test
scores this does not happen all of the time as there are several smart students who do
not seem to perform well. Also, and in this as in the previous point I completely agree
with Kohn, memorizing everything that is just a click away on the internet does not
necessarily translate into being considered well educated.

Dexter Morgan is a praiseworthy character from Showtime s TV series Dexter. It
shows an insight into a peculiar man s life where nothing is what it seems. Dexter
by day is a charismatic blood splatter analyst for the Miami police, a husband,
brother, and a father. By night he is a cynical and gruesome serial killerwho only kills
people who slip through the justice system s cracks. His intriguing multi layered
personality and how he formulates to balance his unusual lifestyle fascinates the
viewer into not only the show, but who Dexteris.
Although Dexter begins the series showing us that he lives in a faГ§ade attempting
to cover up his dark side there is a part of him that is loving and caring. We see this

up to seem a little normal, but he starts to grow feelings for her and gets attached to

the British knew that Dorchester Heights would give whoever captured it larger

would have to say that his decision was a fatal mistake. When General Howe finally

By the end of the 1920s, the United States had the largest economy in the world.
With the destruction brought on by WWI, Europeans endured hardships while
Americans continued to thrive. Upon a successful victory of the presidency, Herbert
Hoover didn t have a doubt that the United States would soon witness the day when
poverty was exterminated. Then, in a moment of what seemed to be triumph,
everything collapsed in the U.S. With the stock market crashing in 1929, it set off a
chain of events that catapulted the U.S. into the longest and deepest economic crisis
it had ever seen. It is far too easy to put the blame of the Great Depressionon one
event, but when there is poor investing over time with the lack of government
programs and a drop in consumer purchasing power due to the market collapse it
can delay the process of fixing the economy for future leaders. It is far too simple
to view the stock market crash as the only cause of the Great Depression. A fit
economy can be revived from such devastation. Long term causes sent the nation
into a downward slope of despair. American firms acquired substantial profits during
the 1920s and immediately reinvested most of the funds into expansion. By 1929,
companies had come to the bubble point. Workers couldn t continue to help further
expansion, so a slowdown was unpreventable. While corporate profits soared and
wages improved over time, so did the spread of the distribution of wealth. The richest

Low income countries are those with a gross national income per capita of $1,025
or less in 2015, as defined by The World Bank. In these countries, mainly Haiti,
Afghanistan, Nepal, North Korea, and countries in Sub Saharan Africa, low income
has a very severe negative impact on children and teenagers. Some of the struggles
and affects from living in a low incomecountry include poor healthcare, little or no
education, and deadly diseases spreading like wildfire. These challenges are
expensive to overcome especially in low income countries where money is scarce
due to unstable governments, weak economies, wars, and geographical
disadvantages. In low income countries, access to health care is a large issue
affecting children and teens. Water scarcity is a large dilemma due to either
economical or geographical reasons. In some areas such as the Saharan Desert
located in Africa, it rains very rarely and the land becomes dehydrated so finding
water is hard to come upon. Humans can last for no more than three days without
water, so having enough water for humans to survive there has been a large
challenge. In other countries, there may be plenty of rain but there are economical
reasons causing water scarcity. Some of the economical issues causing water
scarcity include lack of money to create drinkable water, and no way of transporting
