SCHOOLS

NURTURE IMAGINATION
Use stories and conversations that children
bring themselves to the classroom and help them imagine how
others feel in different situations
MODELING EMPATHIC
LISTENING
Teachers should create space for children by genuinely
listening to them and not contradicting everything they says
EXPLORING AND
READING BOOKS
Read books that introduce children to diversity. for example
'There is Something about Ginny' [By Vineeta Krishna] and 'All
cats have Asperger Syndrome' [By Kathy Hoopman]
COMMUNITY BUILDING
IN CLASSROOM
Use group work to inculcate team-work, empathic listening,
and a sense of being a part of the same community
while being different.
Empathy is not about giving a list or steps of instructions.
Help children focus on each other and practice genuine curiosity
CREATE
OPPORTUNITIES
Teachers should become empathic listeners, and ensure that
children feel heard, and believe that they can talk, communicate,
and express.
USE ACTIVITIES FOR
COMMUNICATION
