A tax agent is an individual or partnership licensed by the Commissioner of Taxation to handle tax matters on behalf of taxpayers. To qualify for registration as a tax agent, an individual must be a registered accountant, advocate, former tax administrator with 10+ years experience, or hold other recognized qualifications. Applicants must apply to the Commissioner, be recommended by the tax agents committee, and pay the prescribed fee. Licensed tax agents are responsible for taxpayers' tax obligations and must conduct themselves with integrity, competence, and in accordance with tax laws.
