This document discusses the house music genre and potential artists and content for a music magazine focused on house music. It notes that house music originated in Chicago in the 1980s and is characterized by repetitive, simple beats. Popular artists in the genre include Disclosure, Duke Dumont, Avicii, Calvin Harris, and Tiesto. Disclosure and Calvin Harris are identified as good choices for the magazine cover due to their popularity and appeal to both male and female audiences. Typical locations for house music include clubs, concerts, and festivals with dim lighting and occasional strobe lights. Suggested magazine articles include interviews with artists, profiles of up-and-coming artists, information on upcoming events, recaps of award shows,

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. 1. The genre I have chosen for my music magazine is House music. House
music is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in Chicago in the
1980s. When it first became big it began to spread through American cities
such as Detroit and New York. This genre was born through back street
recordings made with cheap, low quality technical equipment, this is why
now the beat remains repetitive and simple but that is how people recognise
house music, it is generally dance-based music and becomes very catchy. This
genre is extremely popular at the moment. Artists which are well known for
their fantastic music productions in this genre are: Disclosure, Duke Dumont,
Avicii, Calvin Harris and Tiesto. All the artists have had chart topping singles,
continuously releasing very popular records.
3. 2. Disclosure –
I would use Disclosure on my front cover. This is because at the
moment, they are one of the most popular artists when people think
of this genre. They are iconic and have a lot of hits with their house
music. I would put them on my front cover as my target audience
was immediately know who they are, and the type of magazine this
is. Although they are both males, this band appeals to both genders
as most young people listen to their music.
Calvin Harris –
I could also use Calvin Harris on my front cover. He has been making
house music which has been appearing in the charts for quite a long
time now. He has had collaborations with other well known artists
such as Ellie Goulding. This means having him on my front cover would
not only appeal to fans of his, but also fans of the artists in which he
has made songs with, expanding my target audience. Although some
house music can be typically aimed at males, he makes songs with
female artists which means he would also attract both genders.
Duke Dumont –
Duke Dumont is a very popular artist at the moment in house music.
He has produced some popular songs and many people would know
who he is just by hearing his songs. However, as he is a new
upcoming artist, my target audience may not recognise his face on a
front cover or relate him straight back to the genre in which I am
trying to portray.
4. 3. These are the kind of locations which
are typical for the house music
genre. Many house music artists play
in clubs, concerts or if they are a
popular artist they will play at
outdoor festivals. It is usually dull
lighting with the occasional strobe
light, usually in rooms packed full of
people dancing.
4.
They usually wear quite simplistic clothing. House
music's are more about their ‘beats’ and making
people dance rather than putting on a huge show,
meaning they don’t need to wear eye-catching or
unusual clothes. It is very common for a house music
artist to wear branded clothes such as Adidas or Nike
which connote that ‘back street’ feel of their music.
The usual is a plain t-shirt and jeans, or sometimes a
hoodie. They also don’t wear much makeup.
Considering most of them are a stereotypical male it is
unlikely to see them in makeup.
5.
6.
Here are two images of Disclosure and
Calvin Harris. On the left Disclosure are
having an interview on ‘MTV News’. This
is an extremely popular music channel
which a large majority of their target
audience would watch. On the right
Calvin Harris is having an interview with
Capital FM, one of the West Midlands
most popular radio stations. These are
both ways in which the artists become
more popular, and ways to promote their
music.
5. 7. This is a dance/house music chart, where most house music will be
seen. One of the most popular house music artists is Calvin Harris
who is seen at number 3 on this chart. In an Official Top 40 Chart
only 2/3 house music tracks will be seen as they are typically
played in clubs and do not always have popular videos to go with
them. A lot of artists work off an original song to create a ‘mash
up’ meaning they don’t always get into the charts but become very
popular- meaning this genre is unique and something different.
Sometimes house music can be made more low beat and have a
more dancing tune to it, which means it is more likely to end up in
the top 40.
8.
These are some real people who fit the look of my genre.
House music mainly appeals to a younger target audience
of both males and females. They do not have a specific
‘look’. Similar to the artists, they wear simple clothes as
they know they are most likely going to the concert to
dance. Anyone within the age range of 16-25 who likes to
have a good time is the type of people that house music
appeals to.
6. Ideas for
Articles that
would be in
my magazine.
I would include
interviews with the latest
artists including things
such as questions about
their personal life and
career. Meaning it would
cover all aspects that
would appeal to the
target audience.
I would add in an
article about
‘upcoming’ artists so
they are able to gain
more fans and the
reader can discover
new songs which fit
into their favourite
genre.
I would include an article about upcoming
events which appeal to my target audience.
Things including concerts, gigs, festivals,
meet and greets. Anything interesting in
which my specific audience would be
looking to attend.
When there are award
shows, I would include an
article on all the awards won
by which artists.
I may include some
‘fun’ articles that
involve quizzes,
competitions and
things similar to
that. This would get
the reader involved
and break up any
‘serious’ parts in the
magazine.
I could also include a
fashion article.
Although the clothes
house music artists
wear are simple, they
are normally branded.
So I could show the
artists wearing them
and then show where
the reader can buy
this from and the
price.
