6. Theme or focus of images
Image 1 is one a small building described to be the fisherman’s harpoon, it’s a medium sized
building with detailed architecture and fountains, the photograph was taken in 2014 during
the summer, it captures the nature and the beauty of the building.
Image 2 is of Caernarfon-Castle, specifically in the middle the Knights gate, in the image you
see main entrance to the castle as well as the statue. This photo was taken in 2014, as the
photographer was traveling he came across this castle and wanted to capture it, it is located
in wales.
Image 3 is of a small statue called Inuksuk also commonly spelled Inukshuk, these statues
were originally made by native people of the Arctic region of North America. This statue sits
outside the Parliament Building in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.
Image 4 is of an old clock tower, which was built in the 1890’s as a courthouse, it now houses
the department of France in Quebec city in Canada.
Image 5 is of a giant parliament building, it captures the giant stairway up to the buildings
entrance and the clear sky above, this image had no information with it so I presume it was
one taken just of the moment.

7. Image 6 is of Dunstanburg Castle, the great gatehouse; the image shows the two large towers
and the archway in between with the path just beneath the camera leading up to the
building. It is located in Northumberland UK.
Composition
As the photographer decides where to stand, moves the camera, or zooms in on a
scene, she selects what to include in the image. What did the photographer choose
to include or exclude in the image? If she had zoomed out or stood further away,
what additional information could we see? The composition of the photograph can
also be altered later by cropping. How does the decision to frame only certain
elements in the photograph affect the message conveyed by the photograph?
Image 1 – For image one the photographer wanted to capture the symmetry of the tree
archway and the building, he used a medium shot and stood at a straight angle so there was
no titlt in his image, he also used a tripod. I don’t think there was any cropping done to the
image, but if it was more zoomed out you would most likely see the rest of the building but
wouldn’t maybe keep the same symmetrical effect.
Image 2 – This is also the same as image one in terms of line of symmetry, the photographer
defiantly used a long shot then cropped of the sides, making the building look even taller, he
was using an angle aiming up slightly at the building, I think he was already zoomed out to the
full before cropping but with out cropping you would probably see the rest of the sky as the
angle aims upwards.
Image 3 – This image was taken at a medium shot, the might have been an angle on the shot
because the photographer was down hill so he might of have to look up with the camera,
although it is straight and balanced. If zoomed out you would only see the rest of the trees
surrounding the area.
Image 4 – 6 – are the same as one and two were he has chosen to stay with the same style as
before, both buildings are positioned in the middle of the image and there is some forms of
symmetry to the photo.
Image 5 – I chose this image as well because it was the only one he did which wasn’t trying to
achive an effect of symmetry, although I like the way he angled his camera to capture the
stairs and the top of the building, making it look a lot bigger than It is. If zoomed out you would
most likely see more of the sky, I also do not think that this image has been cropped.
Techniques used
The photographer only used rule of thirds for image 3 I think, there was no editing
done on Photoshop or light room done on these photos, although the saturation in
each one looks slightly altered. They were all taken during the day and at bright light
so his shutter speed would have been low and his aperture around 8-10.
Strengths & Weaknesses
I like the way he has position himself when taking the images to capture them in
symmetrical form, and I also like the length from which the shots were taken, although

8. in some parts of the images like 4 and 5 they seem to have areas which are boring to
look at.
