3. British Board of Film Classification
(BBFC)
As some media content needs to be age restricted a
company called BBFC is entrusted in self-regulatory
and co-regulatory classification and the labelling
system with in the UK.
The main objective of the BBFC is to protect people
with certain aspects from various contents of media
outlets. This is mostly affected by age, as some films
contain gruesome and explicit scenes, the BBFC will
analyse and give an appropriate age rating for that
film. This way parents will know weather it is suitable
for their children or not.
4. Film Distributors Association
The FDA are responsible for realising films
in the UK. They co-operate with many film
trade organisations and government and
were established in 1915.
The FDA also helps prevention of piracy
and copyright theft of films. This is mainly
done through the association called FACT.
(Federation Against Copyright Theft)
5. Office for Communication
(Ofcom)
Ofcom is a government approved authority
that regulates telecommunication with in the
UK. The were originally established as an
act of parliament under the communications
act.
They were established in 2002 and
regulate radio, TV, mobiles, fixed line
telecoms and much more. The also gather
complaints from various forms of media.
6. Video Standards Council
(VSC)
The VSC is a on-profit organisation that
mostly checks the higher aged rated
games, it is based in the UK and is the
second PEGI administrator.
The VSC was established in 1989 and is a
massive supporter of anti-piracy actives.
They are also a standard body for video
game industries.
7. PEGI
This company is responsible for age rating
on games, its important to have age ratings
because a vast amount of people play
games, even kids.
PEGI stands for – Pan European Game
Information. Their Rating system goes
from: 3, 7, 12, 16 to 18.
8. Advertising Standards Authority
(ASA)
The ASA is an organisation that regulates
he content of sales promotions, adverts and
direct marketing in the UK. This is done by
investigation complaints made about
adverts and then coming to the conclusion
on weather the advert actually lies with in
the advertising standards code.
Anon can ask the ASA to investigate an
advert and the company have authority to
remove an advert if that course of action is
required.
9. Press Complaints Commission
(PCC)
The PCC is a company that is responsible
for taking complaints from members of the
public.
There Purpose is to serve the public in
doing so they can hold editors to account
and protect the rights of individuals.
Its is an independent organisation which
administers the system of self regulation for
the press.
10. Russell Brand BBC Case
On the Jonathan Ross Show, him and Russell
Band Phoned up Andrew Sachs’s house
phone. Although it went straight to the
answering machine. He was ringing asking why
he isn't on the show and why he isn't
answering his phone.
While they spoke to the answering machine,
they proceeded to make inappropriate
comments about how Russell Brand had slept
with his grand daughter. This received many
complaints, and Russell Band had to apologise
and was fired from the BBC.
