3. Image 4:
Theme or focus of images
We can see that these pictures are quite similar to each other, which shows this
photographer likes that style of photography and uses it regularly. In all of these
images we see the DJ is the main focus of the image, and then in the background
we can see the, usually large, crowd looking straight to the photographer and DJ.
Image 1 is the only image with depth of field, where the crowd is very blurred out
compared to the DJ, which is very clearly the main focus in that image.
In all of these images, they are clearly taken at quite a large festival, as you can see
by the size of the crowd in the image. We can see the DJ and the crowd in every
image, the DJ’s set up and in some of the images include flames being thrown above
the crowd. Most of these images are quite busy and action packed, with image 3
and 4 including fire being shot out along with all the other aspects of the images. I
think that this photographer uses this style of photography in most of his images
because they clearly portray how large and fun the festival is, that it’s quite action
packed by the crowd with their hands up and shows how much both the DJ and the
4. crowd is enjoying the festival.
Composition
I think the photographer uses this technique so that when he posts them online, it
clearly advertises the festival in a good light. The images show how large of a crowd is
there, and tries to show how much fun everyone is having. So I think by using this
technique which includes a lot of the festival in one shot, it’s probably the most
effective technique to use as it includes so much in just one image.
The photographer chooses in each of these images to include the DJ as the main
focus of the image. But he also chooses to include the crowd in the background. He
also chooses to use a fish eye lens in image 2, 3 and 4 to include as much of the
whole view of the crowd as possible. So we can tell these images are most probably
not cropped as he is trying to include as much as he can in the frame. I also think he
stands as far back as possible to again include as much as he can into the image.
Techniques used
With image 1, its clear depth of field was used in this image, as you can see the main
focus of this image is the DJ, who is in clear view in focus. Then the background is
more blurred out, creating depth of field.
I think this photographer also uses quite a quick shutter speed so he can really
capture the moment when it happens, as we can tell with images 3 and 4 with the
fire. So I think by using a fast shutter speed he can take a lot of images in a short
amount of time to capture as much of the moment as possible, then he can go
through all the images taken and choose which captures the moment as best as
possible as he wanted.
Strengths & Weaknesses
A strength of this image to me is that this photographer includes as much as possible
in frame, so you can really see all the action going on at that time in the frame.
However a weakness would be that because he stands so far away, you can’t see
much detail in the crowd.
