About BBC
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is a British public service broadcaster
headquartered at Broadcasting House in London. The BBC is the world's oldest national
broadcasting organisation and the largest broadcaster in the world by number of
employees. It employs over 20,950 staff in total, 16,672 of whom are in public sector
broadcasting.

The fee is set by the British Government, agreed by Parliament, and used to fund the
BBC's radio, TV, and online services covering the nations and regions of the UK. Since
1 April 2014, it has also funded the BBC World Service (launched in 1932 as the BBC
Empire Service), which broadcasts in 28 languages and provides comprehensive TV,
radio, and online services in Arabic and Persian.
BBC- Synergy
Synergy is the release of a product or a brand across different
media platforms. Examples of media platforms would be:
books,films. Due to synergy this will increase the fame and brand
image in order to get more audience and attract buyers as this will
increase the popularity and spread the image of the product to
different platforms therefore more age groups and different
audiences will buy the brand or product . The important thing
about companies that use synergy is money.
One of many popular brands that BBC has ever used was Doctor
who, which started as a TV programme then TV show then to book
after the book to a movie and finally when BBC saw that the TV
programme was famous enough they decided to sell merchandise
such as CD’s, T-shirts. Also BBC has used other media platforms
such as Sarah James and Doctor who extra
BBC Subsidiaries
Subsidiaries are the much smaller companies
controlled by the bigger companies (Conglomerate).
BBC have many different subsidiaries which are
CBBC, BBC sports, BBC Worldwide etc.
For example, BBC created subsidiaries such as BBc
sports, and allowed this certain individual channel to
represent sports which can be viewed by individuals
who have an interest in this subject. BBC subsidiaries
were created in order for channels to specialize in
certain fields.
Ownership
The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation), is not a private company
but is rather public because it is owned by the British public as people
in Britain pay a TV licence which allows them to watch live television
on any of their devices. The government runs the company on behalf
of the people who pay the TV licence. They set rules to make sure BBC
suits the public’s needs. The BBC Trust was the governing body of the
BBC, however it is now Ofcom who regulate the BBC’s performance,
and make sure they are compliant with content standards. The BBC
must make sure that they follow the royal charter. These include to
inform, educate and entertain the public. The chairman of the BBC is
David Clementi and the the director general is Tony Hall. David
Clementi leads the BBC Trust. Clementi and fellow Trustees are
independent from the BBC’s Executive Board, which is led by the
BBC's executive head and editor in chief – the director-general Tony
Hall. The primary job of the Trust is to monitor the performance of
the executive but also at key moments to represent the BBC.
Funding
Funding is the act of providing financial resource to a company. Many
companies are funded by shareholders (Disney), whereas others can be
funded by the general public (BBC). There are many different types of
funding that companies use. The BBC use funding which are, selling formats,
TV licence fee, merchandises, product placement, DVD sales from the BBC
Store, CDs and DVDs and selling books and magazines. It does not take
money from shareholders or other companies unlike Walt Disney. Selling
formats involves selling an original idea to another company. Product
placement is another way the BBC fund productions. This includes
manufacturers of goods gaining exposure for their products by paying for
them to be featured in films and television programmes. The bottom image
shows that the licence fee helps bring in most of the funding for the
company and increases each year from 2004 to 2014. The licence fee has
benefited BBC from guaranteed increases in its £3.7bn licence fee income.
BBC Product services
The product is what they audience consume, and services are the
platform used to consume the text on. For example, BBC has a service
which are, BBC One that presents the product like: Eastenders which is
a popular television programme that is watched by millions of people
in the UK. The target audience for Eastenders is targeted for any age
group because it portrays characters from different ages, from young to
older, so anyone can watch the programme and it relates to every age
group from 12 years old up to 60 year olds.Another example of a
product and service that is produced by the company BBC is Bad
Education which is the programme and BBC Three which is the service
that delivers the programme. Bad Education is a programme that
targets teenagers and young adults. The reason this is the target
audience of the programme is because the show uses characters with
similar age of the audience which can make the audience feel relatable
to the show and make it more enjoyable for them to watch.

Since 1 April 2014, it has also funded the BBC World Service (launched in 1932 as the BBC Empire Service), which broadcasts in 28 languages and provides comprehensive TV, radio, and online services in Arabic and Persian.
  • 3. BBC- Synergy Synergy is the release of a product or a brand across different media platforms. Examples of media platforms would be: books,films. Due to synergy this will increase the fame and brand image in order to get more audience and attract buyers as this will increase the popularity and spread the image of the product to different platforms therefore more age groups and different audiences will buy the brand or product . The important thing about companies that use synergy is money. One of many popular brands that BBC has ever used was Doctor who, which started as a TV programme then TV show then to book after the book to a movie and finally when BBC saw that the TV programme was famous enough they decided to sell merchandise such as CD’s, T-shirts.   • 4. BBC Subsidiaries Subsidiaries are the much smaller companies controlled by the bigger companies (Conglomerate). BBC have many different subsidiaries which are CBBC, BBC sports, BBC Worldwide etc. For example, BBC created subsidiaries such as BBc sports, and allowed this certain individual channel to represent sports which can be viewed by individuals who have an interest in this subject. BBC subsidiaries were created in order for channels to specialize in certain fields.

Ownership The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation), is not a private company but is rather public because it is owned by the British public as people in Britain pay a TV licence which allows them to watch live television on any of their devices. The government runs the company on behalf of the people who pay the TV licence. They set rules to make sure BBC suits the public’s needs. The BBC Trust was the governing body of the BBC, however it is now Ofcom who regulate the BBC’s performance, and make sure they are compliant with content standards. The BBC must make sure that they follow the royal charter. These include to inform, educate and entertain the public. The chairman of the BBC is David Clementi and the the director general is Tony Hall. David Clementi leads the BBC Trust. Clementi and fellow Trustees are independent from the BBC’s Executive Board, which is led by the BBC's executive head and editor in chief – the director-general Tony Hall. The primary job of the Trust is to monitor the performance of the executive but also at key moments to represent the BBC.
  • 6. Funding Funding is the act of providing financial resource to a company. Many companies are funded by shareholders (Disney), whereas others can be funded by the general public (BBC). There are many different types of funding that companies use. The BBC use funding which are, selling formats, TV licence fee, merchandises, product placement, DVD sales from the BBC Store, CDs and DVDs and selling books and magazines. It does not take money from shareholders or other companies unlike Walt Disney. Selling formats involves selling an original idea to another company. Product placement is another way the BBC fund productions. This includes manufacturers of goods gaining exposure for their products by paying for them to be featured in films and television programmes. The bottom image shows that the licence fee helps bring in most of the funding for the company and increases each year from 2004 to 2014. The licence fee has benefited BBC from guaranteed increases in its £3.7bn licence fee income.
  • 7. BBC Product services The product is what they audience consume, and services are the platform used to consume the text on. For example, BBC has a service which are, BBC One that presents the product like: Eastenders which is a popular television programme that is watched by millions of people in the UK. The target audience for Eastenders is targeted for any age group because it portrays characters from different ages, from young to older, so anyone can watch the programme and it relates to every age group from 12 years old up to 60 year olds.Another example of a product and service that is produced by the company BBC is Bad Education which is the programme and BBC Three which is the service that delivers the programme. Bad Education is a programme that targets teenagers and young adults. The reason this is the target audience of the programme is because the show uses characters with similar age of the audience which can make the audience feel relatable to the show and make it more enjoyable for them to watch.
