For example, it notes how Rihanna's "Loud" album cover uses bright red lipstick to represent a bold musical style, and how Beyoncé's "I Am Sasha Fierce" cover depicts vulnerability through a gray filter and closed body language. Common techniques analyzed across pieces include the use of bold colors and fonts to draw attention and consistency between related materials.
The magazine cover features Jake Bugg looking directly at the camera with a stern expression to seem serious and connect with readers. The main story is about him giving up alcohol at age 18, which would attract readers with its personal nature. Other design elements aim to position the magazine as rebellious and promote its target artists, including the informal name "NME", bold colors, and taglines about bands like Nirvana. Overall the cover design strives to intrigue and attract readers through personal stories, prominent images and text, and associations with featured rebellious musicians.
The document discusses the creation of a star image for a singer named Ruby through a music video, album, and posters. The video portrays Ruby overcoming challenges to show her independence and strength. It aims to appeal to teenagers and both genders by showing Ruby as attractive yet powerful. Ruby changes costumes in the video to portray different personas in different locations. The album cover features bars to symbolize Ruby's escape and connect to the album name. Posters advertise tour dates and supporting acts to promote the band.

The document discusses the consistency in Sam Smith's image across his album cover, poster, and music video. Some consistent elements include a black and white color scheme, Smith not looking at the camera and having his eyes closed or head down, casual but neat clothing, and a plain background allowing the focus to be on Smith. These consistencies convey the emotional soul genre of Smith's music and help establish his signature image and style.
This document analyzes ways in which Lady Gaga's music video for "Telephone" featuring Beyonce exhibits postmodern characteristics. It notes that the title of the video is shaped like an actual telephone to go against conventions. It also describes shots where Lady Gaga wears glasses with cigarettes attached by chains while wrapped in more chains, suggesting a feeling of being trapped but also rebellious creativity. Another shot shows her using diet coke cans to curl her hair instead of conventional hair rollers, along with excessive makeup while confidently walking through the prison setting of the video.
Postmodernism is a term applied to various artistic and intellectual disciplines that departed from modernism's utopian visions of clarity and simplicity. Postmodernism rejected modernism's passion for all things new and was associated with philosophical movements like deconstruction that questioned objective notions of truth. As a movement in architecture, postmodernism rejected the avant-garde ideals of modernism. Postmodern art and literature employed techniques like parody, pastiche, and intertextuality that referenced and commented on previous works through self-reflexive means.
The document discusses images chosen to represent a music artist across different pages of a music magazine. A close-up image was selected for the front cover to attract young teenage girls by showing the artist's facial features and exaggerated makeup. An image of the artist's style of dress was used for a double page spread to convey her appearance and confidence. A third image on the contents page shows the artist's confident stance and expression to portray her as independent, young and outgoing.
The Rolling Stone magazine is published every two weeks and covers a wide variety of music genres and political topics. It was founded in San Francisco and aims to appeal to mainstream audiences by featuring different artists on its covers representing genres like rap, indie pop, and more. The magazine also includes content on politics, finance, and the lifestyles and success of celebrities to attract a broad audience beyond just music fans.
The Bauer Media group would be suited to distribute the author's music magazine because they produce magazines focused on rock, indie, and alternative genres for a specific audience. The author's magazine emphasizes indie pop style through its text, colors, and images, matching the style of Q magazine published by Bauer Media. Distributing through Bauer Media makes sense as the author used Q magazine as a layout inspiration.
The document discusses final drafts of a music magazine. The creator had changed the images and target audience from their original plans for the magazine. A music magazine was produced with a revised set of images and target demographic.
The magazine masthead is bright red, symbolizing importance, which matches the featured celebrity Lana Del Rey. The red stands out against the black and white theme, catching the eye. Lana Del Rey's image is provocative and sexually attractive, aiming to attract both male and female audiences. The black and white color scheme relates to Lana Del Rey's 1960s-inspired pop style.
The document summarizes the benefits of completing a preliminary task of designing a school magazine cover and contents page in Photoshop. This helped the student familiarize themselves with the software before their next task of designing a music magazine. By starting with the simpler school magazine, the student was able to develop their Photoshop skills so that their music magazine design would be at a higher level and avoid mistakes made on the first project. Completing the preliminary school magazine task prepared the student for the main music magazine task by improving their software skills and knowledge.

1. Lady Gaga research
When and how did Lady Gaga’s career begin?
Lady Gaga had wanted to focus on her musical career as she withdrew from school in the second semester of her sophomore year. Her had
dad agreed to pay her rent for a year, on condition that she enrolled to a school if she was unsuccessful with her music career. She had left
her entire family and had gotten the cheapest apartment she could find. She had settled in a small apartment on Rivington Street towards
the summer of 2005, Gaga had recorded a couple of songs with hip-hop singer ‘Grandmaster Melle Mel’ for an audio book accompanying
a childrens book. She had then began a band called the Stefani Germanotta Band with some friends in NYU. Gaga had worked with a
producer Rob Fusari as he sent his friends her songs to his friend Vincent Herbert and he was quick to sign her to his label. Gaga had also
struck a music publishing deal with Sony/ATV. From this she had been hired to write songs for Britney Spears, Fergie, and New Kids on the

2. My music artist is quite like the
artist Lana Del Rey with the type
of style she has along with the
type of music she produces. The
thing I like most about my artist
is how relaxed and laid back she
is. She’s a very confident and
easy going person as she takes
everything on board calmly and
knows how to deal with her
achievements as she’s proud of
where she’s gotten with her
career compared to her old life
which she has chosen to leave
behind. The reason why I like
this about my artist is because
she expresses this confidence
and elegance through her music
which she writes herself based
on her everyday life and her
inner emotions. She is exquisite
and passionate and doesn’t care
much about what people think
of her. She enjoys being around
people having fun and not caring
about what happens next as she
enjoys not knowing what
happens next.
My artists mood board
My music artist enjoys being in New
York, it is one of her favourite places
as that is where she had been
discovered. Her style is quite retro
and the music style that she
produces is indie pop. Most people
would be surprised by her voice as it
isn’t the typical high pitched voice
that most women music artists have.
My artist is an artist that you either
love or hate as she is intriguing to
some people as they don’t hear what
they expect from her. As my music
artist writes her on music she is very
open in that way to her audience and
shares her experiences and informs
them about the life that she is living
and how it makes her feel which
would attract many fans as they
could maybe relate to what she’s
saying. My music artist is very open
minded and does what she likes, she
has unusual hobbies that most
people wouldn’t do everyday like sky
diving rather than just drawing or
reading a book as she’s fearless and
ambitious.
3. ‘Florence Welch’ is
used on this double
page magazine
spread. She is
wearing black
clothing which
would portray her
elegance. However,
it is also slightly
revealing which
would demonstrate
she is quite ‘sexy’
and ‘attractive’
As the colours in the
background are pale
as the colour white
and grey are used, it
enhances the colour
of her hair which
then makes it eye
catching and one of
the first things
people see when
they look at this
page of the
magazine.
In the image Florence herself is also looking at the audience of this magazine,
therefore she is drawing them into reading the story aligned with it. This
immediately signifies that she is the current topic of this story and informs the
person that is looking at this that it is all about her.
The text used in this magazine
double page spread is delicate which
links to the idea that most women
are perceived this way. This font is
quite elegant and classic which
would maybe portray her personality
or inner feelings.
Behind her image and text there is
written in bold capital letters ‘USA’
which is quite significant as it takes
quite some space even though it is
behind her.
The colours mainly used on this
magazine are white, black and red.
As more of white is used in the
background it is quite subtle which
makes it easier to bring out the
‘wild’ and ‘crazy’ in her as her
clothing is very unique and different
which is quite striking to the
audience as it shows her as an
individual.
4. The key image on this double
page spread is of Alexandra
Burke. From the way in which
she is standing we can interpret
the confidence she has because
of her posture and because of
the position of her arms.
Also, she is wearing revealing
clothing which shows she is
comfortable with the way she is.
She is looking towards the
audience in this image which
conveys she is wanting
attention as her facial
expression is provocative which
suggests she wants to be seen
as appealing and attractive to
the reader.
The pink text on this double
page spread could portray
innocence and more of girly
colour, therefore women are
more likely to be reading this
story.
Furthermore, as Alexandra
Burke in this story has just
won the X-Factor it could
signify the idea that she is now
entering a new world going
from innocent to a more
revealing stage in her life
which links with the image
that is used as she wears more
explicit clothes.
5. Lana Del Rey is used on this front cover, her
image is close up which portrays her
confidence, especially from her facial
expression as she seems quite comfortable as
to what she is doing.
As her name ‘Lana Del Rey’ is written in capital
and in a sleek font we can interpret her
elegance and her importance to this specific
story as her name is in capitals.
The colours in this photo and quite
soothing, faint and exquisite. This demonstrates
more of a calm, comfortable situation as the
reader isn’t shocked by too many
colours, therefore this is relaxed making the
audience feel relaxed with it. Furthermore, as
these colours present these connotations, we
can instantly interpret the sort of person she is.
This would signify that she is quite a moderate
and laid-back person. This would draw a reader
in to have more of an insight as to why she is
the way we see her.
We can assume that Lana Del Rey from this
photo is quite respectable as she isn’t sexually
objectified therefore we can derive that she
prefers showing closer pictures of her face. This
would also link with the idea that Lana Del Rey
cares about her appearance as she is wearing
make-up and we are just about slightly able to
see a bit of her hair which is most probably
done for this photograph.
6. Interview questions about our artist
How have you dealt with your rise to fame?
I honestly would say, it wasn’t that easy. It wasn’t handed to me as I would have liked it to be. Especially when things got hard I just kept going even though I
thought I couldn’t handle it anymore. Along the way, I’d lost a lot but I’d definitely say it was worth it. Looking at how I live now, I could have never imagined a
better life for myself but there’s always a part of everyone which says they want more and I want that. One thing I’ll never do is give up, especially after
everything I’ve given up to live the way I am living as no one but myself believed in me. Being famous isn’t all about the money or the attention, I’ve just always
seen my situation now as more of a passion that I never want to end in my life.
What’s your favourite track on your new album? Why?
My favourite track on my album I have to say is ‘Ride’ I loved making that music video it just felt so real, I just got caught up in my own little world and I didn’t
want to leave.
What or who inspires you in your life and your music?
I had grown up listening to a lot of Lana Del Rey and Lady Gaga. I’ve always been interested in different genres I’ve never been someone to just have a particular
genre and never listen to anything else. I love everything because every time I listen to the music, it’s the lyrics that I focus on as the lyrics are most important
for me when I write my own music.
7. Magazine interview
In this magazine interview Iggy Azalea is being interviewed and is asked about
her type of music and her style. It also talks about how she struggled to
become an artist and how she pursued her dream. This magazine interview
shows her determination in what she’s doing and where she had travelled to
do this. Iggy talks about a business she had started with her friend so that they
would make legal money where they had imported hair extensions and sold
them to the public. Iggy also states that she is living out of her suitcase as she
doesn’t have a house at the moment in this interview which automatically
indicates her courage and dedication to produce her own music. From this
interview we can interpret the type of person Iggy Azalea is, which is laid back
however very hard working. We can tell that she is laid back from the way she
speaks in the interview as its quite informal which would make the reader
more comfortable as it targets a certain audience of a younger generation as
the way they speak blends in with how she does. This would attract that
audience as they would then feel like they have the advantage to understand
her better than others would.
From the image of Iggy on the magazine interview we can see her confidence
in the way her arms are held up along with her face. As Iggy had set up the
business of importing hair extensions that ties in with the fact that she looks
like she cares a lot about her image as her hair is done along with her make up
and what she is wearing. We can infer that she is trying to stand out from this
image compared to other artists as she conveys her individuality for example as
she’s wearing glasses where some artists don’t but instead they look directly at
the audience this portrays how much she wants the success as she’s looing
upwards which could be a sign to show she wants to strive for more in her
career.
8. Magazine interview
In this magazine interview Avril Lavigne
talks about how every record she makes it
is accompanied by its own colour scheme.
Her new album is also mentioned to be
coming out in September which is said to
be more sophisticated than her previous
album where she had used the colours
pink which is quite girl like and innocent.
Avril Lavinge mainly talks about her music
and how she produces it in this interview.
For example she had stated that when she
gets bored she sits by her piano and
produces a new song which is how she
had created most of her album; in her
own home.
9. My music magazine interview
Interviewer: Hey! So how are you today?
Interviewee: I’m good, I’m good. How about you?
Interviewer: I’m all good thanks. So tell us Gabriella how your career began. Was it quite a challenge for you?
Interviewee: Well, I would say it was but then it is for everyone who wants to work in the music industry. It’s a lot of hard work, especially depending where you start from. I mean, I was
just an ordinary school girl and look at me now. I’ve never really had anybody believe in me at all until I had come to New York and met Richard Chacone, who had helped me out a lot with
recording and submitting my songs and starting me off in the music industry which was a great help for me.
Interviewer: So how did you start singing?
Interviewee: It all started from the day my dad had passed away when I was 16. My mother too had cancer at the time, so I had to work and take care of her. I missed a lot of school and I
felt this was it, this was the end and I’d never be able to pursue my dream of being a doctor because I was never in school. It sounds kind of typical the whole doctor dream thing, but I was
genuinely always passionate about science in school. I guess it was kind of influenced on me by my parents as I grew up hearing how proud they would be if I became one. Anyway, I sort of
locked myself away from the world, I was pretty isolated and the only escape I had was music. Most of it was quite emotional I must admit but it changed me, I felt a real passion within me
and it was miraculous. Having my mother so ill just put me down but with music I always had another reason to smile. I then began singing to her a lot and she just loved it. She wept and
wept as I sang to her every evening and it just started becoming quite personal to the point where I had written my own songs about that period of time and how I felt about that.
Interviewer: I’m sorry to hear that, it must have been tough to deal with but I guess it’s all worth it now. So what’s your favourite song on your first album?
Interviewee: Yep, it was but I just believe everything happens for a reason. Well, my favourite song was ‘Stay’ it was actually the first song I had worked on and I really put most of myself
into it. I guess I had a strong connection with it as I wrote that when I was 17 when I spent most of my time with my mum.
Interviewer: Yeah, I must admit I love that song. It is an ongoing big hit at the moment. Are you surprised about that?
Interviewee: I know, I’m so pleased with that. I really didn’t expect it!
Interviewer: So.. I heard about you and Ryan. What’s going on there?
Interviewee: (laughs) That’s nothing! I mean we worked on a song together but everybody seems to think it’s something more, I guess that kind of happens with most celebrities but I mean
no we’re quite close and we have a laugh together but that’s just about it, he’s a really nice guy and I enjoy spending time with him.
Interviewer: Well it sure did look like something more (laughs)
Interviewee: We just really enjoyed producing that song we got so into it especially the video which was actually a big success.
Interviewer: Alright alright, I’ll let you off this time. Will the video be out soon?
Interviewee: (laughs) of course. Um, yeah it will be actually in exactly 2 weeks from now.
Interviewer: Well, we’re all excited now and looking forward to hearing more from you.
Interviewee: Thank you. My new album is actually out by the end of this year and it is quite different to my first album. It will be a big surprise and I hope most people enjoy it because I
have made a lot of changes.
Interviewer: I’m sure we will. Well thank you for being here! It’s been a pleasure and we hope you come back and join us soon for another interview once your new album comes out.
Interviewee: Likewise! Thank you for having me and I definitely will.
