This document outlines Gee Oliver's proposal for a project called "Talking Social Media" which includes:
1. Developing three educational presentations on social media tailored to different age groups, along with accompanying booklets and videos of the presentations.
2. The goal is to build experience presenting and create materials for Oliver's MA application in Esports, while developing skills in areas like design, social media, and communication.
3. Key aspects include presenting roughly 10-20 minute slideshows to schools, recording the presentations to host on a project website, and running a social media campaign to promote the materials.
2. BASIC CONCEPT
• Three levels of educational, illustrated presentations (to be
given in schools).
• Three videos of these presentations being given, for online
consumption.
• Three illustrated supporting booklets.
• A full, thorough and professional website.
• A well-managed social media campaign.
• A selection of promotional material designs.
3. WHY?
• Working with schools to build network and gain ‘teaching’
experience.
• Creating ‘assembly/class presentations’ to show basic event
management skills for my MA application (Esports).
• Works within my skills (design, social media, promotion,
communication).
• Helps develop a variety of skillsets to strengthen my CV and
portfolio.
4. AGE RANGES
• Key Stage 2 (7-11):
- The risks of social media – what to look out for. Where to go.
- Uses dinosaur characters to keep kids interested.
• Key Stage 3 (12-14):
- Watching what you say/post. Cyberbullying.
- Small, simple robot character, to make presentation more fun,
but not patronize.
• Key Stage 4 (15+):
- Using social media for employability purposes. Selling yourself
online. Jobs in social media.
- Sharp, clean, minimalist design. Bright colours (colour pick
from key apps/sites for subtle association).
5. PRESENTATIONS
• Roughly 10-20 minutes long.
• Include student interaction
(quiz/suggestions/activity)
with small prizes.
• Simply animated slide shows.
• Currently in communication
with a high school (for the top
two age ranges), and
collecting primary schools to
approach.
6. WEB LESSONS
• Use presentations previously
created, and presented as if
to a physical audience.
• Recorded using good quality
equipment.
• Already confirmed use of
C&CA TV and/or computer
room for filming.
• Hosted on website.
7. SUPPORTING BOOKLETS
• Condensed version of
information provided in
presentation.
• Given to schools/parents.
• Use illustrations created for
the presentations.
• Probably about 12 pages long
each.
• Possibly B&W with colour
covers.
8. PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL, ETC.
• Full, professional website – to host videos, with links to
important sites, engaging and exciting for both students and
parents.
• Social media campaign – throughout process, aimed at the
students, semi-casual and meme-y to be more attractive.
• Logo and branding – to use on website and social media
accounts, simple and clean.
• Designs for posters/business cards/flyers – may not be used,
different for each age.
9. DEGREE SHOW IDEAS
• Use screen with headphones (and subtitles) to show video
presentations.
• Booklets below screen.
• TV screen made to look more like a computer.
• “Coming alive” – characters coming out of screen.
• Want to utilize my skills.
