RMIT students often lack work experience prior to their internships, making it difficult to decide on a career path and effectively interview for jobs. Meeting with RMIT alumni can help by giving students insight into different career options and opportunities from those with first-hand experience. Several alumni sessions were held where graduates now working in fields like marketing, finance, and engineering shared their career journeys and advice for internships and job interviews.

1. Since most RMIT students do not have any work experience prior to doing their
internship near the end of their degree programs, they struggle with deciding what type
of job they would like to pursue both for their internship and after they graduate. This can
affect students in two ways. Firstly, it makes their initial job search more difficult because
they have not narrowed down their interests. Secondly, and more importantly, this lack
of clarity about what different types of jobs entail negatively affects students’ ability to
clearly express why they have chosen to pursue a particular field in a job interview.
An excellent resource for this would be our
own alumni whose experiences (since they
graduated from RMIT) would probably be
most meaningful to our students. These
sessions were designed to provide a non-
threatening opportunity for students to ask
their questions about what people really do at
work, and to find out what opportunities are
available in different fields
There were three sessions on 13, 20 and 27
March alumni came to RMIT and talked to
WPP students sharing their working
experiences and giving students some Tips
for interview

Logiex as software Engineer.
Birnie Duthie, Lecturer, Learning Skills, with help of RMIT Design Club, interviewed each
alumni about their careers and asked them to give any recommendation of any do’s and
don’ts to RMIT students who are about to go out to internship.
