                        Synthesis Quest: Multimedia/Interactive Guild

1.At the beginning of the class, my score was Active 9, Intuitive 3, Visual 9 and sequential 1. The only
thing that changed in my thinking was just a better understanding of what those terms meant. I don't
want my preferences to hold me back. Just because I am less of a reflective learner doesn't mean I
shouldn't try to practice, and it doesn't mean that I won't be in situations where I will have to use the
style of learning that I'm not good at. At the end of the class, my thinking about learning preferences
overall hasn't really changed. Knowing my preference doesn't make a huge difference in the way I learn
because I already knew how to learn effectively so knowing exactly what they are didn't make a huge
difference.
2.Which learning pathway did you choose at the beginning of the class? The learning pathway I chose
was the Learning sage because I wanted a broader knowledge of multimedia technologies. I feel like I
was successful at getting a broader knowledge but that I wish I could have had that and a deeper
knowledge. I feel like the activities associated with the quests only gave me a general overview and
that I didn't get to go too much deeper into the technologies. I didn't change my pathway from sage to
warrior because it was more important to me to get the broader understanding.
3.My favorite activity that we did for the different quests was the predict, use, evaluate activity in each
quest was the best way for me to learn. The screen casts/quiz were not very helpful but having to
evaluate how they helped learning made me really think about the different websites. I also was then
able to get a good sense of the quest by seeing the examples. For example, I didn't really understand the
multimedia quest until I saw the various examples. I was then able to grasp the global sense of the new
technology.
4.While learning about screen casts I learned that they are an effective way to make a presentation. I
didn't find anyway for them to help me learn this semester but hopefully I will get to use them or learn
from them someday. Screen casts help me learn specifically because they appeal to my visual and
sequential learning preferences because I'm able to remember some of the pictures on the slide and
what was said with them or about them. I have always used Podcasts to learn because I remember
things better when I can associate them with another thing. For example I listen to podcasts and play
solitaire, and when I'm playing solitaire later I can remember things from the podcast. The Multimedia
quest was fun to learn about but not very relevant. Since most mediums of technology are multimedia it
was redundant to have a whole section committed to them. And because screen casts and podcast are
multimedia the way they help my learning is the same for multimedia.
5.The most interesting and also the most surprisingly helpful technology for me was the podcast. I
loved looking for new ones to learn from and that I can put them on my iPod and listen to them on the
go. I started listening to an art history podcast from LearnOutLoud.com and I was able to learn a lot
about some of the paintings that were on my tests. The technology that never really worked as a
learning tool was the screen cast, because they were not a useful tool to use with my classes this
semester even though I know how they can be helpful. I'm hoping to find more podcasts and to
somehow find a way to use screen casts effectively for learning.
6.I hope to continue to use podcasts to learn outside of school about topics I'm interested in such as Art,
music and cooking. I currently work at a bakery and I hope to some day own my own bakery or be a
professional cake decorator. I hope then to find podcasts or screen casts or multimedia to enhance my
knowledge of my professional field. I might listen to the Martha Stewart Podcast to get some new
ideas or advice for baking and decorating.
7. While it is hard to know the specific technologies I will use because things might change, I know
what ones I like and what ones I most likely will not use. I like podcasts and If I can find a way to
incorporate them into my learning then I will. Multimedia is a hard technology to use specifically to
learn something, but since it is all around me it will happen whether I like it or not. Screen casts are a
technology that I enjoy and will definitely use if I have a presentation that I need to give, but unless I'm
a teacher I probably will not use it that often. If I am in a class and they recommend a specific
multimedia technology I will immediately understand the benefits and know how to utilize them as best
as I can.
