CD-GAIN: Content Delivery Through the Analysis of Users' Access Patterns, ta...Dima Karamshuk
Using nine months of access logs comprising 1.9Billion sessions to BBC iPlayer, we survey the UK ISP ecosystem to understand the factors affecting adoption and usage of a high bandwidth TV streaming application across different providers. We find evidence that connection speeds are important and that external events can have a huge impact for live TV usage. Then, through a temporal analysis of the access logs, we demonstrate that data usage caps imposed by mobile ISPs significantly affect usage patterns, and look for solutions. We show that product bundle discounts with a related fixed-line ISP, a strategy already employed by some mobile providers, can better support user needs and capture a bigger share of accesses.
To effectively serve massive volumes of video traffic content delivery networks (CDNs) are turning to clients for assistance, creating hybrid peer-assisted content delivery systems. We analyze how peer-assisted CDNs are affected by a number of design obstacles which include: the need of localizing peer-to-peer traffic within ISPs (isp-friendliness), reluctance of users to participate in redistributing the content (partial participation) and necessity to match users with similar bitrate requirements (bitrate stratification).

OTT traffic has surpassed carrier traffic. Data usage is increasing rapidly. Voice and SMS revenues are declining quickly and data revenue is becoming the major source of revenue for MNOs. In a data-only environment, MNOs need to find mechanisms to drive data demand in order to drive revenues.
Malaysia shows what the data-only world will look like, with Freemium Internet a basic requirement to retain customers. It showed that data revenues continue to grow, and that competitive pressure leads to all operators adopting freemium internet, once one major player has done so. In fact, Aircel and Jio show that Freemium Internet can accelerate data and subscriber growth so much that it has an impact on global traffic growth (Ericsson 2017).
Freemium Internet can also drive non-telco OTTs, such as advertising, mobile money, and e-Government services, using mobile data as a platform. By removing affordability as an obstacle, the number of internet users expands exponentially, enabling the delivery of e-services to all segments of the population, instead of only the (relatively) wealthy.
In comparison to Malaysia, mobile networks in Africa are generally not as technically advanced (smaller 3/4G network coverage, lower smartphone penetration) nor as competitive. Where commercial incentives are insufficient, regulatory and policy incentives can be designed, such as the reduction of licence fees, the allocation of spectrum, and reduced universal service fees. The impact of these incentives would be to dramatically stimulate data demand to the benefit of consumers and MNOs, and have a significantly positive effect on economic growth.

The tremendous development in technology and the aggressive blend of
information technology have brought about a phenomenal shift in banking
operations the world over. For the banks, technology has not only emerged
as a strategic resource for achieving higher efficiency, control of operations,
productivity and profitability, but a means for survival. From customers’
perspective, it is the realization of their anywhere, anytime, anyway banking
dream (Balwinder et al., 2004). Consequently, the banks have been
compelled to embrace technology, recognizing that this will enable them to
meet the increasing customer expectation, and also equip them to gain a firm
stand in the highly competitive banking environment.

Vernacular Is NOW, Not The Future – A $300 Bn Opportunity Today.pdfRedSeer
As the data prices have decreased post Jio, the growth of
internet users in India has received global attention.
While the profile of an internet user 5 years ago was fairly
uniform (English speaking, Metro or Tier-1 city, Male);
today, it is a lot more heterogenous. The rise of multiple
social media, content and OTT platforms to cater to this
diverse user base is a testament to this.
Vernacular Is NOW, Not The Future – A $300 Bn Opportunity TodayRedSeer
India had an active internet user base of 530Mnusers in 2018, comprising 260 Mn “monetizable” users (NCCS A/B/C), which is expected to grow to 400 Mn by 2023 owing to expedited growth in the overall number of internet users. Consumption of digital content in vernacular language is a preference for 80% of all monetizable users, i.e., 210 Mn users with an annual spending power of $300 Bn. However, the low quality perception of online vernacular content forces a high proportion of these users to access Facebook in English, leading to a whitespace.
Mobile Data Strategy | Indian Telecom 2016 | Based on secondary research | Reports by BCG, Mckinsey and Ericsson ConsumerLab | Followed by Recommendations and Suggestions to capture market share in wake of rising Competition in the sector.
The indigenous Telecoms, Internet, Media & Edutainment (TIME) sector
has grown its international footprint over the last six years. The continued adoption of high-speed internet (fixed and mobile) as a direct channel opens up a significant revenue opportunity.
India telecom revenues is primarily driven by voice which constitutes to 90% of total revenues leaving only a smaller portion for data. Aegis LeadCap Research & Consulting predicts that in next 5 years share of revenue from voice will reduce down to 60% from its current state of 90%. 40% revenue from data also includes the revenue from BWA service providers like Reliance Infotel, Tikona etc. Most prominent value add services which drives data revenues include mobile internet, mobile broadband, games, location based services, video calls, mobile adverts, music, video and mobile TV.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Internet access from cyber café‘s drops 6 points from the previous quarter Base: 2.2m (Past 4 weeks Internet Users) This is likely from the drop of internet access rates and the increase in bandwidth available across the country. Safaricom’s heavy advertising campaign promoting mobile internet access has contributed to this, and it is projected that mobile web will grow fast in the coming months
4. Low frequency internet users increase their usage Base: 2.2m (Past 4 weeks Internet Users) Those internet users on the bottom quartile regarding frequency of access show a significant jump in usage
5. Time spent on the internet is increasing among users Base: 2.2m (Past 4 weeks Internet Users) There is an increase in time spent on the internet, mainly due to the drop in cost of internet access
