Become the Player

In 2050, college graduates MARTYOWENS,ADAN SMITHand FRANKIECARTER areon a questto
experiencethe newtechnology called ‘BecomeThe Player’which is developed in Tokyo. Their
experiencedoesnot go to plan.
MARTY OWENS,the man whounderstandsvideogame developmentmore thananyone else,has
justgraduatedfromcollege withhis twobestfriends, ADANSMITHand FRANKIECARTER(theyall
specialiseinvideogame development).The three are gettingreadytogoto Tokyo as there isbrand
newvideogame technologycalled‘Becomethe Player’whichhasgainedthe mostinterestby
MARTY as he wantsto developmore of these games.All threeof themflytoTokyoand begintotry
out the gamesone at a time.Theyanalyse the 15 gamestheyplay to see whatto improve andhow
theycan adapt them. All 15 gamesare shown,10 of themare shownwhenthe three are leaving
aftertheyplayedthe game,the otherfive are shownwhenthe three are playingthe game.Showing
five games createsacontrast to NeonDashas NeonDash isthe onlyunsafe game toplay.Showing
the five gamesalsocreatesa contrastas NeonDashisthe onlydarkgame whichforeshadows the
danger. On theirlastnighttheygoout for a meal as a rewardfor their efforts.
On theirwayback to the hotel,theygetstoppedbya manwho wantstheirhelp.The manwhois
calledCHADLEE has got himself stuckinagame calledNeonDash. NeonDashisa game setin the
streetsof Tokyocoveredinneonlights.The aimof NeonDashis to collectthe trophywhilstbeing
chasedby a Japanese soldier,butthe playershave aneontrail behindthemmakingithardertohide.
He tricksthe otherthree to help him, buthe doesnot tell them thatthisversionof NeonDashis
dangerous.Afterbeingtoldhowtoplaythe game and whatdoesnotwork,the fourbegintoplay.
The more theyplaythe game,the more MARTY, ADAN andFRANKIErealise whatdanger theyare in.
The firstattemptto grab the trophyismade by MARTY but the trophy disappearsasthe game has
become glitchfroma loose wire inthe electrics. Aftertheyare playingforabout10 minutes,the
soldierglitchesandsmashesintoabuildingwhichsendsshockwavesdownthe street,forcinga
buildingtofall onto FRANKIE.To save FRANKIE,CHADdistractsthe soldierwhilstMARTYand ADAN
pull FRANKIEfromthe rubble. NowthatCHADis beingchased,the otherthree musthelpbutluckily
CHAD finds apowerup and throwsitto MARTY. MARTY usesthisto become invisiblewhichmeans
the soldiercannotsee him,sohe has more routesto the trophy.Justbefore hispowerupdisables
itself,MARTYgrabs the trophieswhichstopsthe hole game andremovesthe soldierwhowasinches
away fromcatchingCHAD.
Nowtheyhad won,CHADwas free fromNeonDashafterbeingstuckin there fora few months.As
theiradrenalinbecomes weaker,theyall realise how muchdangerthe game putsyouin andgo
straightto the headquarterstogetit removedbefore anyoneelsegetsstuck.Once the game was
removed,theyall gobackto theirhotel andstart talkingtoCHAD who isalsoa videogame
developerandwantstowork on real life videogames.
Skipping10 yearsintothe future,the fourmenhave createdthe biggestBecome the Player
technologycompanyinthe UK andare growingtheircompanyeveryday. Theirmostpopulargame
iscalledNeonDash.
