Researching and planning the moving image work
1.
2. We initially started the course by researching and looking at short films
that had similar elements and genre as to the final film that we are
meant to produce. The short films I have looked at are ‘The black hole’
written and directed by Phil and Olly 2008, ‘Awake’ By Daniel Blackstock
2013 and ‘Right place’ By Futureshorts 2007. All these films we have
chosen had the elements I wanted to use in our final film. The focus was
on how the genre of the film is portrayed through editing, camera shots,
soundtrack and how climax is built. We made a list of the ideas we got
from watching these to help us create our own film.
Since AS my research skills have improved massively. Though the research
method was the same as AS, I have realised that this year my analysis has
was more detailed and I was able to make links between the techniques
and what they demonstrate. This had lead my case studies to be more
successful and has allowed me to understand techniques properly and
helped me analyse more effectively.
Using the knowledge from AS I know how to analyse techniques such as
camera shots and angles i.e. High angle portrays power and superiority.
3.
My group and I realised that the target audience for the short films we
watched were both genders aged 16+. This is something we considered for our
film and chose to make the target for our film both genders aged 16+. The
feedbacks we received from the class when we pitched your treatment was
beneficial for us, as it was the correct potential target audience for us.
Therefore all the feedbacks we received we took on account. The feedbacks
we got helped us a lot to guide us properly through the journey. For example
one feedback was ‘’how is going to Mayfair a bad thing?’’. We thought about
this and realised that Mayfair is not meant to be a punishment in the game but
simple an adventure.
Compared to last year the method of receiving feedbacks were different. Last
we collected all the feedbacks from our blogs and progressed with our journey
like that. However this year we pitched our treatment and got live feedbacks
which in my opinion was much more effectively. This is because potential
target audience can ask any questions they have and also ask questions which
is beneficial for us. It was easier for us to analyse and record the feedbacks.
Hearing what they potential audience likes, disliked and want helped us
improve our idea to create the final idea. Therefore from last year the method
of receiving the feedbacks has been more beneficial for us.

My group and I have organised everything very well. The main element that
helped us was that we had regular group meetings discussing what needs to be
done and how we are going to achieve it. As well as this we also had a group
chat on Whatsapp including the actors therefore we were always in contact
and discussing idea, meeting times etc. Therefore the discussions helped us to
not lose track of what we are doing and keep us going all in the same
directions. The storyboard and script also was one of the main elements that
kept us organised during the filming of our film. We are able to follow the
script and storyboard and successfully record everything we needed. Other
than storyboard and script we also has a shortlist of the scenes we will do.
These was listed in the order of what was going to be filmed first. This again
was another thing that helped us. The actors we chose for our film were all
our friend therefore it was easy to get in contact with them, having them also
on the whatsapp group chat made them feel like they were actually part of
the group. The location was also easy to find as we kindly used our group
members house.
Compared to last year this year was easier as I didn’t feel alone and always
knew that my group was helping me out aswell. This year due to being
prepared and organised I felt that everything was going well and we didn’t
struggle as much as I did last year. Last year was a bit tough due to not being
prepared and organised and rushing all my work.
5.
The making of the storyboard and the script was done at the same time
to allow us to stay on track and making sure that the script and
storyboard matches. My group and I made sure that we speak about every
scene that we done and every line that we done. This is because we
wanted it to be correct and matching so it would be easier on the day of
filming. The storyboard was done by me with the help of my group, the
script was done by Solomon with the help of us and Kishan was helping us
both. Problems we came across was on the actual day of the filming was
that there was many scenes that we didn’t use but also many scenes that
added. Therefore we ended up switching up slightly. This was also the
case with the script, as we had to add and take out some lines. However
we knew that these made our film better.
Compared to last year music magazine I believe our planning and
organising in detail made it more effective and successful. Where as my
music magazine was rushed and not thought through carefully therefore I
wasn’t please with my final piece.
6.
The groups time management was good and we all
managed well. The production schedule was helpful
for us to understand when what was going to
happened, keeping us in track. Having the
storyboard, script and shortlist of the scenes on the
day of the filming helped us with our film
management allowing us to finish quickly. Our time
management was good also due to good team work,
always having meetings and discussion on whatsapp
helped us with our management.
Again compared to last year my time management is
better now. This year I am following the production
schedule and making more list and ideas to make the
process finish quicker. Last year my time
management was all away the place and I struggled
to fix it as I was quite last with the work.

This time around I believe I have presented my
research and planning better than last year.
Firstly I am blogging everything which is helping
me like a guide with the order of my group. As
well as this I have started to use numerous
software's such as prezi, slide share, imovie etc.
These were all programs I used last year however
this year I feel a lot more confident with it. Last
year I didn’t explore much programs and
branched out. Using new software's makes the
our short film more fun making and engaging for
us and also teaches me to be more brave to new
the software's.
