Installed PV capacity worldwide is 135GW by 2013. Approx. 40GW being added every year. The 210 GW of cumulative capacity projected by IEA by 2020 is being achieved five years earlier. This has made IEA come out with a new Solar PV Roadmap, 2014 where the
capacity expected for 2020 will be double of what was foreseen in the 2010 roadmap.
IEA’s analysis is based on a bottom-up TIMES* model that uses cost optimisation to identify least-cost mixes of energy technologies and fuels to meet energy demand, given availability constraints of natural resources. IEA projects that India can achieve 142GW by 2030 in a high renewable scenario and around 575GW by 2050 wherein PV will contribute to 16% of overall energy generated.

This project brief outlines a Program of Activities (PoA) under the Clean Development Mechanism that aims to promote Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) and energy efficiency measures in buildings in the United Arab Emirates. The PoA is a collaboration between Al Etihad Energy Services Co. LLC and the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy to reduce electricity demand and greenhouse gas emissions through the installation of efficient equipment. Successful registration of the PoA with the UNFCCC would provide an accounting platform for energy efficiency improvement activities in the country and contribute to sustainable development goals like stimulating the local ESCO industry and providing green business opportunities.

The UAE is joining initiatives to boost clean energy innovation and deployment globally. It has committed to doubling its clean energy research funding by 2020 as part of Mission Innovation, a multi-country effort. It is also a member of the International Solar Alliance to promote solar energy. The UAE aims to increase its clean energy use to 24% by 2021 and has numerous domestic solar projects underway. However, Russia may freeze its Turkish Stream gas pipeline project with Turkey for several years in retaliation for Turkey shooting down a Russian jet.

ADNOC announces world's first fully sequestered CO2 injection project in carbonate rock in the UAE. The project will begin injecting CO2 in Q2 2023 and support ADNOC's goal of capturing 5 million tons of CO2 annually by 2030. ADNOC also partners with 44.01 to pilot a project that permanently mineralizes CO2 by injecting it into peridotite rock formations in Fujairah. Masdar and DEWA sign a partnership agreement to sponsor sustainability events like WETEX and ADSW through 2025 in support of UAE sustainability objectives.

Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity server
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).
