Abstract
This experiment studied Mendel s law of independent assortment through observing
three generations of Drosophila melanogaster. His law was examined by looking at
the inheritance patterns that predicted genetic linkage, mapping distances and
interference. Genes are located along chromosomes and the distances between
them vary. During recombination, these genes may become unlinked. The
frequency to which this occurs relies on the recombination frequency, in which a
greater value represents a greater distance between two loci. By looking at
inheritance patterns and recombination frequencies, this experiment showed that
white eyes, short wings and forked bristles are X linked traits. As well, dumpy
wings and brown eyes are autosomal traits. The expected ratio of a dihybrid cross
of 9:3:3:1, was used to determine linkage between two loci. This was then verified
using a chi square test. Through analysis of our results, linkage existed between
white eyes and short wings, as well as between short wings and forked bristles.

While thinking for a question for Science Fair, Tamir and I wondered: What are
the limits of the Placebo Effect? While we know it can stop some pain, I would
like to see how we can push it. So we decided to try and test this ourselves. We will
be applying headaches to people through music, and other means. We will then use
a pill that will either be Tylenol or a sugar pill and see if they have a reaction to the
[sugar] pill after 45min 1hr. After that, we will ask them a few questions on how they
are feeling, how much painthey are in, and if the pill helped them at all. We record
this information and see how it affected a large group of people and the differences
between groups.
The placebo effect could have a large effect on how painkillers and medicine works
on humans. Generally, the best type of painkiller is one that is higher in dosage.
However, many tests have been showing that placebos are becoming to get to the
same level as over the counter and even some behind the counter medicine. In
2013, patients in clinical trials only reported that drugs help nine percent more
than placebos. Secondly, it s been used much more in everyday use. In 2010, there
was a study that reported forty percent of the time, physicians used an inactive pill,
and eleven percent had prescribed inactive pills or injections. Surprisingly, this

Since the beginning of hockey, fans have gone crazy for the entertainment fights
bring to the games. The punches thrown, blood drawn and players knocked out
certainly excites the crowd and are part of the culture of the game. In fact, it is so
widely accepted, that teams specifically hire big guys to be enforcers that protect the
rest of the team and throw the punches no one else cares to. Despite its duration in

been great controversy over whether or not to continue to allow fighting in the
league. The N.H.L. hasn t declared any rule against fighting, but rather, has created a
