Sushi is one of the most popular Japanese dishes outside of Japan. And it is the most popular dish inside of Japan Originally sushi referred to pickled fish conserved in vinegar Nowadays sushi is a dish with rice There are many different types of sushi
Nigiri It is commonly called two kind sushi because it involves two ingredients; rice and a single topping Small rice balls with fish on top of them There are countless varieties of Nigirizushi Some of the most common ones are tuna, shrimp, eel, squid, octopus and fried egg Generally it is served on a combination platter so you can try many different types at once.
Gunkan Gunkan means battleship in Japanese Small cups made of sushi rice and dried seaweed filled with seafood There are countless varieties of gunkanzushi But it is mostly made by filling with various types of fish eggs But it is also common to being made with sea urchin.
Maki Maki sushi is a "rolled sushi" It has narrow strips of different ingredients (seafood, crisp vegetables or pickles) layered on a bed of vinegar rice Then set on a sheet of nori or seaweed naming it nori-maki sushi It has the most variety because almost anything can be rolled up inside. This is the most popular type of sushi in the U.S
Temaki Temakizushi (meaning: hand rolls) are cones made of nori seaweed. Filled with sushi rice vegetables and seaweed. There is also a variety of dipping sauces served along side of this sushi It is more of a casual meal in Japanese culture. Not in many restaurants but is very popular for home parties for the host to roll on their own.
Oshizushi Oshizushi is pressed sushi. The fish is pressed onto the sushi rice in a wooden box. It is made with many different types of fish and sometimes with avocados It is wrapped in onion stalk The box is usually made out of any type of wood because t doesn’t really make a difference
Chirashi Chirashi is a seafood type dish. It is made with mushrooms, and vegetables spread over sushi rice. It is very similar to Domburi with the difference of the rice. Easier to make than any other sushi because there isn't any molds of anything to follow. And you can use just about anything that you want and cant think of to make it
In conclusion… Learning about the Japanese culture was very interesting. They have a very different culture and traditions than we do Sushi is very interesting to me because I really like sushi. There are some many ways you can make it and so many different ingredients to make it with. So learning about the Japanese culture helped me learn about things I would like to try or do sometime in my lifetime
