1.4 Hazards Identified
a) The hazards to working in the environment are to be set out in the risk
assessment, these are briefly (but not limited to):
Underfoot Conditions: Slip/Trip Hazards;
Moving Vehicles/Machinery.
Overhead Services.
Stockpiles.
Open Water Bodies Adjacent to site.
Vegetation.
Public Vehicles.
b) PPE such as safety helmet, safety harness, safety Boots, goggles will be always
provided. Staff will take necessary precautions and utilize them when potential
hazards are identified.
c) An emergency telephone list will be provided for the Team Leader, to make
sure that the Contractor, Police Department and any emergency service provider
can be contacted should the need arise.
6.0 Prior Activities
6.1 Calibration and Testing of Survey Equipment; Prior to commencement of survey
works, the Surveyor shall ensure that all survey equipment such as Total Stations and
Automatic Levels deployed in the project are within the calibration period or duly
registered.
6.2 Automatic Levels shall undergo peg tests every two weeks to ensure that readings are
within allowable errors. Peg test records shall be compiled by the Chief surveyor.
4. The Chief Surveyor shall ensure that all survey equipment will be recalibrated on or
before the expiration of calibration certificates.
6.3 Reconnaissance; Together with the Engineer, the survey group shall schedule a joint
inspection or reconnaissance for familiarization of the project site and to check if the
survey control points are still undisturbed. All disturbed control points shall be recorded
and reported accordingly.
6.4 Coordination Meeting of Survey Teams; The Surveyor shall conduct daily coordination
meeting (preferably before or after the daily toolbox meeting) to orient the survey teams
on their assignments/work area to eliminate confusion and double handling of work
items when the field survey has commenced.
7.0 Procedure
7.1 Elevation of Benchmarks; Elevation of benchmarks will be decided by direct leveling
survey. A leveling route for measuring benchmarks will be selected in such a way that
the route starts from existing benchmark, and return either to the original benchmark or
another existing benchmark in the area
a) Observation; Two way observations by level using a pair of staff will be carried
out. Lengths of foresights and back sights will be kept very nearly equal. As a
rule, the length will be not exceeding 70 m.
Reading of observation values will be made in millimeters.
b) Limits In Observation Value; Limits in observation value in leveling will be as
follows:
Error of two way observation 20 mm or less for each 1 km.
Error of closure 15 S mm or less
Where S is one way distance in kilometer.
c) When the error of closure falls within the specified limits, it will be distributed
equally over the survey points in proportion to the distance between survey
points.
d) When the error of closure has exceeded the specified limits investigate the causes
thereof and carry out re surveying.
7.2 Construction of Station and Benchmarks;
5. a) The stations and benchmarks will be carefully constructed after approved by the
Engineer.
b) The Stations and benchmarks will be provided with adequate protective fences to
preserve them during construction terms.
c) The stations and benchmarks will be clearly marked with item number, elevation
and / or coordinate
7.3 Control Point Survey; Control point survey will be carried out to produce fixed
coordinates of each control point referred to the reference point subjected by the
Engineer.
8.0 TOPOGRAPHICAL SURVEY
The survey group shall ensure that a topographic survey shall be done before the start of
earthwork activities
8.1 Topographical survey will be include of horizontal control survey, vertical control survey
and survey the whole site using cross section in every 10 meters.
8.2 Topographical map will show horizontal detail and elevation of the ground.
1.0 Horizontal Control Survey
1.1 Sufficient number of control benchmarks for detail will be installed.
1.2 Location of the control benchmarks will be decided by site reconnaissance
1.3 All coordinates of control benchmarks will be decided according to the existing
benchmark by means or traverse survey.
1.4 Accuracy of coordinate of existing benchmark will be confirmed by traverse survey.
2.0 Vertical Control Survey
2.1 Sufficient number of temporary benchmarks will be installed for the whole site survey of
areas.
2.2 All elevation of the temporary benchmarks will be decided according to the existing
benchmark by means of direct leveling survey.
3.0 The Whole Site Survey, Cross / Longitudinal survey
(1) Horizontal and vertical detail of areas will be surveyed based on the control benchmarks.
(2) Cross section will be surveyed by direct levelling at 25 m interval.
(3) Total Station or Combination of T-2 Theodolite and EDM will be used to collect data of
cross section.
6. (4) Beginning Point (BP), Intersection Point (IP) and Ending Point (EP) will be set out of
each cross section line from the nearby control point.
(5) Wooden peg or concrete marker will be established for each marking BP, IP and EP.
(6) Traversing and levelling work will be carried out to preserve coordinates and elevation of
BP, IP and EP referred to existing BM.
(7) The measuring intervals of cross section will be 5 to 10 m and all remarkable changes of
topography will be measured.
(8) All fields will be carefully recorded for further processing.
7. Establishment of Horizontal and Vertical Controls
All survey works shall be reference to the existing survey control points within the project site.
In cases where additional control points are needed, traverse and leveling surveys shall be done.
The surveyor shall ensure that errors accumulated within the surveys are within the allowable
tolerances as stated in the DENR Administrative Order 2007 – 29 or the Revised Regulations on
Land Surveys (Article 7 Section 28.b Project Primary Control).
Survey control monuments shall have a standard dimension of L20cmxW20cmxH50cm with 30-
40cm embedded on the ground. In cases of hard ground, monuments shall be cement putty type
with standard dimension of L20cmxW20cm.
Topographic Survey
The survey group shall ensure that a topographic survey shall be done before the start of
earthwork activities.
All visible features will be measured using ground measurement points for every feature that
needs to be shot. These points will be spread throughout the project area in sufficient number to
fully cover all features and the entire ground, and to ensure accurate computation of the contour
lines and elevations. Also, the gathered data shall be the basis for the earthworks (cut and fill)
computations.
All man-made structures such as buildings, roads, culverts, drainages, bridges, walkways, etc.,
within the project, site will also be measured in order to get their ground footprint. All other
elements on the ground, such as plantations, trees (with a minimum diameter), rivers, streams,
etc. will also be included the measurements.
Road Layout
Horizontal road layouts shall be done at 10 meter interval (straight) and 5 meter interval (curves).
Toe and embankment limit shall also be marked at the same interval.
Survey stakes shall be in the form of woods or rebars (preferably 10mm diameter). Elevations
shall be marked with the use of masking tapes to determine the required elevations.
Excavations
Excavations shall be initially marked in the ground using wood stakes. Batter boards shall also
8. be placed (1 to 2 meters offset) if needed to serve as permanent guides for the excavation team.
Benching at required slope ratio shall be done.
Methodology and execution Plan of Topographical Survey
Posted on July 27, 2012 by robbysatria
This Methodology and execution Plan of Topographical Survey, covers the following works
(1) Installation of Benchmarks
(2) Topographical survey at with scale 1 : 500 and grid every 10 m interval.
(4) Topographical surveys for Pipeline route, with scale 1 : 500 and grid every 100 m interval.
Installation of Benchmark
The purposed of Benchmark establishment is intended to be used as a permanent point over the
field, that point
in future particularly during the construction stage can be used as reference point within stake
out stage.
The Benchmark will be installed on the stable area, easily identified and reachable. Shape and
size of
benchmark are planned to have dimensions or 30 cm x 30 cm x 120 cm for temporary Bench
Mark, and shall
founded on piles or shall based on geotechnical calculation.
