The author created a survey through Survey Monkey and distributed it to Facebook friends of various ages to understand audience expectations for different film genres and ages. Results from 30 respondents showed that thrillers were most popular with certain genders and ages, and most expected a thriller to have a 15 rating. While horror was also popular, the filmmakers decided on a psychological thriller set in a house with both modern and classic elements to appeal to younger and older viewers, promoting it with both a poster and trailer.

1. To find out more about audience
expectations, I created a survey on the
site “Survey Monkey” and sent it to
Facebook friends, of all different ages.
This meant that I could look at the results
of the survey (30 people took it) and I
could then work out what gender and age
liked a specific film, and find out what
there expectations of a thriller would be.
This was successful in creating a rating
for the thriller, as most of the people who
took the survey thought a thriller deserved
