THE THRILLER PITCH
By Ashley Ntumba
Intro
• What I have done so far is put all my
research on a blog and researched how I
can make my product a successful thriller
film.
• This is based on the pre-production stages
and how they will influence the production
stage
• It will also be about how I used all my
research and how it affected the final
product.
Brief
• The research task we were assigned to do
is complete a two minute introduction to a
thriller film using titles and a soundtrack.
• In order to do this and decide what title
and soundtrack to have, the pre-
production stage enabled me to further my
research and my understanding of how to
make a successful opening thriller
sequence.
Ideas (The mind map)
• The mind map featured the 3 main ideas.
Target audience
• My target audience are teenagers aged 16-19
• Why?
• I believed it was a good idea to target this age group as I am
in the age group and most of my friends to I can be more
able to relate my content with an age group that I am in.
• From my surveys I found out that majority of people choose
age 16-19 to be the appropriate target audience for my
thriller film.
• The message I wanted to get across through this thriller film
is that sometimes being experimental can have a negative
effect on an individual and how the conscious mind plays a
huge role in our lives which I believe is very applicable to
people this age (16-19 year olds).
Conventions of Thriller Films (in red
are the ones I will use in my thriller)
• Low-key lighting
• Quick cuts and angle changes (this will be used after the
characters hallucinate as they return back to their normal state)
• The use of shadows (will be used towards the end scene as it
will be set in the evening)
• Music which helps to build tension (this will be used
throughout the sequence)
• The use of mirrors
• Black and white shots
• Flashbacks (at the end after the victims’ friend picks up the
documents that the mysterious man had of his friends)
• The theme of violence
BFI – feedback ,discussion made
+amendments
• From the BFI I received a lot of feedback on our one of our
ideas:
• A woman said that it was not very unique as it had a typical
plot and she believed that a lot of people have probably
watched a thriller already like it.
• A man said it was very simplistic and was not unique.
• From all this feedback I decided to choose one of our other
ideas as it would be more appealing to my target audience as
they would of not heard a plot like it before and was an
original idea which was stated later on in one of my audience
research tasks as one of the people who gave feedback said
that the new idea I choose was more original and not
something you will have heard before.

Script
Cast
• The cast consists of:
 Kastriot – Mysterious Man (the antagonist)
 Sarviny – (protagonist 1)
 Kevin – (protagonist 2)
 Zeus – Victim’s friend
 I choose this cast as I thought it would be appropriate
for my target audience because most of the characters
are around the same age as my target audience and this
will make it relatable to my audience and this will keep
them engaged with the thriller sequence.
Locations & Risk assessment
• Location choices
• Paddington
• Hammersmith
• Risk assessment:
• Most of these locations have busy roads which
means extra care needs to be taken.
• Make sure not to film near building sights as it
will be very noisy and may interrupt the
footage.
Music
• The music for my thriller film was found off
audionetwork.org
• There is no copyright issues with any music involved in
my product as the website I accessed them from had all
non-copyright music.
