This document lists and provides brief descriptions of various medical instruments used in surgical procedures. 23. Metallic BougieUsed to dilate urethra in urethral strictures.Used to dilate urethra before cystoscopy.Used to repair ruptured urethra by railroad technique.

24. Bakes’ DilatorUsed in Choledocholithotomy, after removing the stones from the bile duct, it is used to sound the bile duct for any retained stones.The patency of the ampulla can checked, In impacted stones or ampullary stenosis,it is not possible to pass the dilator in to the duodenum

26. Suprapubic Cystolithotomy ForcepsUsed in suprapubic cystolithotomy to extract the stone from the bladder.

27. Red Rubber CatheterIt comes in sizes of 6,8,10etc.the size of the catheter is expressed in mm as number of size/2 +1.Used to drain urine.Used to measure amount of residual volume of urine.Used to administer chemotherapy drugs for Ca bladder.

28. Foley’s Self Retaining CatheterDiameter of the catheter in mm is calculated by no. of catheter in french scale/3.Used to drain urine.Used in suprapubic cystostomy.Used for urethral catheterization following prostatectomy.

29. Malaecot’s CatheterUsed in suprapubic cystostomy.Used to drain abscess cavities.Used as intercostal tube drain.
