Lack of Mental Health Awareness In The Workplace TherapistTee
This presentation was presented at the Pittsburgh Carnegie Library, Business and Technology Series event in December of 2013. This presentation discusses the problems associated with corporations, organizations, and other businesses in failing to bring awareness to the existence of mental health. This presentation also touches upon the inability of employees to seek mental health care without fearing loss of employment, loss of confidentiality, or stigma.
Most employees have legal or federal rights to protect their mental health information from employers, but there are exceptions to this rule. HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996), which supposedly protects all mental and medical health information from being exposed, is briefly discussed.
For most people, the overwhelming anxiety of eldercare issues appears suddenly after an accident or unexpected illness. Quick decisions are necessary with little or no preparation or education.

It is rare to see people use illicit substances for ‘no particular reason;’ oftentimes the user is looking for a reward or a benefit. Those same motivators that lead to the initial use may cause that person to use again; this behavior may eventually lead to drug addiction. Relationships can refer to a variety of interpersonal connections between individuals. These connections can be of different types and have diverse characteristics.
Social support through positive, health-promoting relationships can have a significant impact on motivation and long-term success. Otherwise, the health risk can increase dramatically. For example, when someone close to a participant becomes overweight, their chances of becoming overweight increase 45%-171% (depending on the nature of the relationship).
This paper focuses on the advantages of social support, with ideas for your organization to take advantage of these findings.

PERSONAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS........ DISCUSSION BOARD DUE THURSDAY
Healthy vs. Unhealthy Relationships
Consider this scenario: Carrie has been dating John for three years. In the first year of their relationship, they were blissful and happy. Spending almost every day together, they often talked about marriage. Carrie was so happy that she started eating healthier and exercising on a regular basis. By the end of the first year, the novelty of the relationship wore off, and John paid less attention to Carrie. She became more anxious and often questioned their commitment to each other, and her exercise routine decreased. As the couple rounded the third year, John hit Carrie during an argument after she dropped a fork on the floor. John was apologetic and promised it would never happen again. Since she still loved him, she agreed to forgive him and try and make the relationship work. How might this relationship affect personal health and wellness for either partner?
There are many types of relationships. Sibling-to-sibling, parent-to-child, colleague-to-colleague, to name a few. Within these various relationships, the dynamics can range from healthy to unhealthy and can affect personal health and wellness in various ways. People often have difficulty recognizing whether a relationship is healthy or unhealthy. This could lead to some unanticipated consequences. Think about what constitutes healthy and unhealthy relationships and how they can impact personal health and wellness.

Empowered Use, Health Consciousness and Prescription Drugs with Special Focus On Parents And The WorkplaceNational data show prescription drug abuse is growing at rates that wellness/lifestyle practitioners can no longer ignore. Coaches and wellness coordinators can benefit from knowledge about prescription misuse in topical areas the presenter will discuss: neuroscience, motivators (pain, mood energy), at-risk populations, and policy as well as mind-body practices as antidotes to the growing epidemic. The presenter will share a presentation developed for Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and that participants can use in their own setting. This presentation has a focus on the workplace and working parents. As this is a relatively new topic not often discussed in wellness practice, participants will be asked to complete a brief follow-up survey asking about the relevance and utility of this topic to their work in the wellness profession.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

1. Support Available and Barriers to Success
Forms of support
Support can take the form of listening, empathy, encouragement or advice and guidance. People
following a health improvement plan need support in maintaining a positive outlook. This support can
either be formal or informal.
Formal Support
This is provided by someone who is trained to give support. Because these people have wide
experience of dealing with particular situations they can offer sound advice and pass on useful
information. They have a lot more knowledge and experience than most friends and family. They
also know of other sources of support, which they can readily refer people to if needed, and it is
often easier to discuss difficult issues with a person who is not a family member or friend.
Types of formal support:
Doctors Health specialists Counsellors
Support groups Youth workers Teachers
Career advisers Human resources department
Informal Support
This is provided by those who are not paid to give it. These people offer support because they care
about the person and also usually feel a responsibility to do so. Informal support can be provided
by:
family friends
work colleague partners
2. Barriers
There are many limitations which prevent people being able to achieve a healthy lifestyle. For each barrier listed in the table, provide an example of when the
barrier could affect an individual making changes to their lifestyle.
Financial Barriers
Addiction
Lack of education and understanding
Time available
Self-esteem levels
Media influence
Peer group pressure
Influence of partners and family
Motivation to change
Unrealistic goals
Current physical condition
Time limitations
Genetic factors
Lack of access to resources and support
Availability of negative lifestyle choices
3. TASK
Using the information from the previous pages, you need to create a health improvement plan
for the following individual.
A 24-year-old female who drink 30 units of alcohol each week, uses cocaine once or twice
a week and has unprotected sex with about two partners a month.
Choose one aspect of their lifestyle that you would like them to improve and write it below:
……………………………………………………………………………………………………….
First you need to set a short, medium and long-term target for the lifestyle choice you want
them to improve.
Short-term (One Month)
Medium-term (Six Months)
Long-term (One year)
Now you need to set a SMART target for the first week of their health improvement plan
Specific
Measureable
Achievable
Realistic
Time Related
4. Identify any formal and informal support they could access during their health improvement
plan
