● Shopping is something that can never go out of style
● Huge crowds and long queues at point of sale
● Stressful, frustrating, time consuming and annoying experience.
● Checkout being the most stressful and frustrating stage of the shopping experience
INTRODUCTION
PROBLEM STATEMENT
• Crowd in the shopping stores at the checkouts
• Festivals, special occasions, weekends and holidays
• Set of steps followed by a supermarket customer
• Most stressful and frustrating stage of the shopping
experience
• Negative impact on customer’s satisfaction
• Parking of vehicles
• Lack of security during billing process
• Fast service creates a positive experience.
OBJECTIVE
· This work project studies the checkout experience offered in stores. It is paramount to improve
this experience.
The main objective of this project is to acknowledge how to improve the checkout processes
efficiency, how to reduce the customer’s perception of waiting time and enhance the quality
of the service provided at the several checkout options.
· To develop new technologies and IoT solution to enhance customer’s checkout experience.
• Inefficiency of retail cashier
• Shortage and unavailability of manager to supervise
• Inadequate number of checkout counter compared to the influx of
people
• Inadequate bill desk maintenance
• Bad queue management
CAUSES
SOLUTIONS PROPOSED
1.Self-checkout using mobile scanner
• Customer scans QR code on the product using a mobile app and bags the item
• Product gets added in the cart and customer browses for other items
• After shopping payment can be done at checkout
• Eliminates the need for billing counters

2. Smart Shopping Carts
• Helps to overcome the need of scanning each shopped product.
• Automated carts equipped with sensors and screen.
• Scan the QR to activate the cart and start shopping.
• Pop the required products into the cart and the product is automatically billed.
• Take the product out and it is deleted from the bill.
• Once shopping is completed, customer pays the bill and can leave the store.
• Hence the hassle of long checkout queues is skipped.
Amazon Go Stores
• The most advanced shopping technology.
• Uses Just walk out technology, wherein customer enters the store pick their
product and leave the store without passing through checkouts.
• Every go store has electronic gates where the customer scan his apps QR
and enters the store.
• Thus the system acknowledges that the customer is entering the store and
starts monitoring his/her activity.
• The technology uses the most advanced machine learning, computer vision
and AI
• There are camera’s and sensors installed in the celling and around the stores
that monitors each individual and even has weight sensors that track when
items are removed.
• All these devices are part of their advanced AI system that automatically
adds the product that the customers take to their virtual cart and bills them
to their amazon account as they leave the store.
Initially when this system was
introduced there was lot of
problems caused, the system
could not identify more than
20 people at once and
would mix up shoppers.
But now with several
upgrades these stores have
overcome most issues and
become the most advanced
shopping technology.

  • 7. OBJECTIVE · This work project studies the checkout experience offered in stores. It is paramount to improve this experience. The main objective of this project is to acknowledge how to improve the checkout processes efficiency, how to reduce the customer’s perception of waiting time and enhance the quality of the service provided at the several checkout options. · To develop new technologies and IoT solution to enhance customer’s checkout experience.

SOLUTIONS PROPOSED 1.Self-checkout using mobile scanner • Customer scans QR code on the product using a mobile app and bags the item • Product gets added in the cart and customer browses for other items • After shopping payment can be done at checkout • Eliminates the need for billing counters

Smart Shopping Carts • Helps to overcome the need of scanning each shopped product. • Automated carts equipped with sensors and screen. • Scan the QR to activate the cart and start shopping. • Pop the required products into the cart and the product is automatically billed. • Take the product out and it is deleted from the bill. • Once shopping is completed, customer pays the bill and can leave the store. • Hence the hassle of long checkout queues is skipped.

Amazon Go Stores • The most advanced shopping technology. • Uses Just walk out technology, wherein customer enters the store pick their product and leave the store without passing through checkouts. • Every go store has electronic gates where the customer scan his apps QR and enters the store. • Thus the system acknowledges that the customer is entering the store and starts monitoring his/her activity. • The technology uses the most advanced machine learning, computer vision and AI • There are camera’s and sensors installed in the celling and around the stores that monitors each individual and even has weight sensors that track when items are removed. • All these devices are part of their advanced AI system that automatically adds the product that the customers take to their virtual cart and bills them to their amazon account as they leave the store.

  • 14. Initially when this system was introduced there was lot of problems caused, the system could not identify more than 20 people at once and would mix up shoppers. But now with several upgrades these stores have overcome most issues and become the most advanced shopping technology.
