2. Lungra Health Clinic,
located in Achham,
Nepal delivers about
100 babies each year.
Without electricity,
women here are lucky
to survive childbirth.
3. Until recently, the clinic
had no electricity. At
night, babies were
delivered by midwives
holding flashlights
between their teeth.
4. In case of complications, mothers were lifted
onto stretchers for the 4 hour hike to Bayalpata
Hospital, the nearest hospital with electricity.
5. SunFarmer installed a
solar energy system for
Lungra Health Clinic.
Babies are already
being born under solar
lights, and modern
medical equipment will
soon be on the way.
6. Financing options for
solar do not exist
Three major barriers to solar:
High upfront
costs
Difficult to get
quality
installation
Poor quality components
and system design
Systems break
within a few
years
Nobody sticks around to
maintain the system
7. We oversee design and
installation, ensuring
highest quality
RELIABLE
We provide long term
financing; customers pay in
affordable installments
AFFORDABLE
We monitor, maintain and
measure impact to
patients and communities
DURABLE

* Currently helping with full redesign of water, electricity, and solar systems – how to count population impact?
9. SolarChallenges and lessons learned
Learning Implication
• Public sector is extremely challenging to work
with – long sales cycle (bureaucracy),
expectation for donations
• Need to concurrently examine other
opportunities and sectors that can
scale
• Collecting repayments is very difficult - need
local financial intermediary to co-invest and
assist with payment recollection
• In most cases, we do not extend
financing to health sector
• Local contractors have a capability gap • Need to be hands on in the field to
ensure proper execution – oversee
design and perform strict testing
• All customers are excited – but won’t sign
contract unless there is compelling financial
value
• Need to focus on projects that are
financial “no-brainer” for customer –
deliver significant savings on day 1

impossible - delivering high -quality healthcare to patients in
isolated r u ral communities.”
