I love BBQs. They are a part
of the summer for me. BBQ
means fresh air, sun, family
and friends, good food, less
work inside the kitchen…..
1. Some BBQ vocabulary

3. How to accept or decline an invitation
to a BBQ
What you will learn here:
1. BBQ vocabulary

1. BBQ vocabulary
"We're going to grill out at my summer
home. Wanna come?”
What does "grill out" mean?
When we say "grill out" we mean that
we are going to grill food on the
barbecue. A typical BBQ would
include hamburgers, hot dogs,
chicken, corn and perhaps vegetable
skewers, and maybe fish.

2. Inviting people
Invitations have three parts:
1. asking if someone is available
2. giving details about the BBQ
3. inviting the person to attend
For example:
“What are you doing next
Saturday? We're having some
people over for a meal. Would
you like to come?”
"Have you got anything on for
this evening? A couple of us
are going to a bar after work if
you'd like to come."
Now, let’s prepare a friendly BBQ email!
 This is certainly an informal email.
There are typically 5 parts of such an
invitation email:
1. Greeting
2. Invitation
3. Additional Information
4. Closing
5. Signature
Informal Greetings
• Hello Rupinder,
• Hi Maria,
• Hey Franco,
Note: There is always a comma after the greeting!

Editor's Notes

  • #4 Could we start with some vocab like : have something on BBQ Recipe Potluck Grill out
  • #5 Could we start with some vocab like : (insert images where possible) have something on BBQ Recipe Potluck Grill out
  • #6 Could we start with some vocab like : (insert images where possible) have something on BBQ Recipe Potluck Grill out
  • #9 How about only informal invites for the BBQ…on previous slide we say it’s an informal invitation so let’s ski8p the formal greetings
  • #10 Could we use ‘rain date’ instead of ‘in case of rain’…we used this idiom in Week 6 so it will be a nice revision
