Glasstress, an exhibition celebrating the use of glass in contemporary art, will be held in Venice from June 5 to November 22, 2009 as an official collateral event of the 53rd Venice Biennale. The exhibition will feature newly commissioned works and pieces by 45 modern and contemporary artists, many working with glass for the first time. Glasstress explores each artist's approach to working with glass and the synthesis of their ideas with glassmaking skills. It aims to examine glass's expressive possibilities and showcase innovative works by artists who traditionally work in other media.
The document discusses performance trend analysis using run charts and control charts. It defines a run chart as a graphical display of time-ordered data used to study trends or patterns over time. A run is consecutive data points on the same side of the median. Shift trends and trends are identified by multiple consecutive points above or below the median. Control charts track process statistics over time and identify special causes making a process out of control. Eight visual indicators of an out of control process are described.

Introduction
For this assignment, I went to the museum with my professor. It was a wonderful experience especially since I have not been to a museum for a long time and she was already a member. The museum we chose to explore was The Philadelphia Museum of Art. Because she was a member, I only had to pay $10 for the entrance fee which was a nice discount. When we first walked in, I was overwhelmed because I was excited and anxious to see all the different works of art. The exhibits we saw were Modern Times, Art Splash and Face to Face.
Face to Face
As I start to think back, I did not take any pictures in the Face to Face exhibit. This exhibit had so many people, I couldn’t and would not dare take my phone out because I probably would have dropped and broken it. It’s interesting to have seen so many people since all that was in the room were the artist's self-portraits and brief descriptions. But that is what amazed me, seeing that people still appreciate others and what they’ve done is extremely motivating to me. In our World Cultures textbook, the majority of what was read was filled with cruelty and hate which still goes on today but seeing us as individuals overcome the hatred and honor those in our past is nothing less than a miracle I was able to witness in person. If I were thinking, I could have taken a photo of the exhibit to express the appreciation of today’s society looking back at yesterday’s heartaches and pain.
Art Splash
The second exhibit was called Art Splash. The museum stated that it was an “imaginative play for kids and their grown-ups” which was suitable due to the beautiful vibrant colors and even still-life paintings of light. The two pictures I chose were of Charles Sheeler and Joseph Stella. The Swan, which was created around 1924, was a painting that caught my attention as soon as I entered the room. The energy was warm, welcoming and fun as the colors made the Modern painting come alive. He gives people a sense of hope in the era of the Italian Renaissance which is what many of them needed. In Art Splash, I also admired the painting of Joseph Stella, The Cactus, because I enjoy seeing him show the reflection of the lights in this painting. What really catches my attention is how there are reflections, but it doesn’t show where the light is coming from. If you investigate the picture, the stand-up light isn’t plugged in! He’s really making you use your imagination to figure out where the light is coming from because it doesn’t show light coming from the lamp above the cactus either. These two artists are taking you to different places; Sheeler is taking you to a fairyland while Stella has you in a magician’s house. These two paintings are full of life, and I loved looking at them. (Philadelphia Art Museum, 2)
Modern Times
The exhibit Modern Times was my all-time favorite! I am far from being an artist but to see what people can pa.
MOCA provides a beautiful space that brings in diverse visitors but could better accommodate those with disabilities. It gets the wide entryway right but movies are loud and distracting, lighting is intense, and there are many crowded displays. The virtual tour highlights areas to improve like making movies less overwhelming, reducing clutter, and ensuring clear signage and text for all visitors.

An attempt to distill some rules of thumb for museum interpretation, covering the spectrum from analog to digital. Delivered to an international audience of museum professionals in Yerevan, Armenia on October 21, 2012.
The document discusses the process of art criticism and analysis. It outlines Edmund Feldman's 4-step technique for analyzing art: description, analysis, interpretation, and judgment. It focuses on the analysis step, explaining that analysis involves asking "why" about various elements of the artwork based on internal evidence from the artwork itself and external evidence from context about the artist and time period. The document provides examples of analyzing Pablo Picasso's painting "Weeping Woman" using both internal and external evidence. It encourages analyzing art by carefully describing the artwork and asking questions.
This document discusses the changing role and definition of museums. It begins by describing the traditional "white cube" model of museums as places that collect and display artifacts. However, it questions how important the physical building or "box" is, and whether the focus should be more on the experience for visitors rather than just information. Some examples are given of museums that shift away from only presenting information, to prioritizing visitor experiences through interactive and immersive activities. The document debates whether the goal of museums should be presenting authentic information or creating engaging experiences, as experiences may be more important for the public.
The document discusses the changing role and definition of museums. It questions whether museums should prioritize information or experiences, and provides examples where museums have shifted their focus from collecting objects to providing engaging activities. These include a museum of blind people that teaches experiences through other senses, and a Ferrari theme park that simulates driving experiences. The document also debates how authentic the information provided by museums needs to be, pointing out examples like many places claiming to hold artifacts and graves of historical figures.
Can the way we display objects itself become a marketing tool for museums? Do museums that have greater interactivity and access to with objects end up attracting more public and is there greater engagement with the museum visit per se?
1) The student teacher had a positive experience observing and teaching English lessons at the secondary level. They noticed the regular teacher stuck closely to the textbook, so they tried including more engaging activities.
2) For their first lesson, they included interactive activities about music to motivate students that went over well. However, strictly following the textbook for the second lesson on friendship seemed boring.
3) Subsequent lessons included humor, songs, videos and hands-on activities to keep students engaged. Presenting inventions and the past also helped introduce grammar points like passive voice and "used to" successfully.
4) Overall, the experience helped them learn about teaching adolescents and improved their lesson planning skills. They realized students prefer
The document outlines plans for an art gallery project focused on a painting called "Saint Luke Painting the Virgin Mary". The project group will create educational videos and host workshops about the painting and exhibition. They aim to attract art and history students to the gallery through a free event, as the gallery's costs normally prevent many students from visiting. The exhibition explores how artists develop their craft and convey meaning through their works. It features the focal painting and compares older and modern pieces that take inspiration from it.
The document discusses a study conducted by the author over 12 months where they documented people sleeping in public places like the London underground. Some key findings included that sleepers came from all backgrounds and slept at all times of day. The author also found habitual sleepers who would sleep on their daily commute, and that some sleepers were not disturbed even on busy trains. The study provides an interesting perspective on public sleeping behaviors.
This document outlines the author's leadership credo of mission accomplishment, which originated from their training to become a United States Marine and was solidified after being removed from a leadership position. The author's leadership style focuses on issuing clear policies and directions to provide Marines with a consistent leader who can help them plan and complete tasks on time to accomplish any mission. Experience has taught the author that a consistent leadership approach combined with hard work and setting challenging yet realistic goals leads to success.

The document discusses the changing role of museums in a Web 2.0 world where lifelong learning is emphasized. It notes the history of audience research in museums and focuses on making museums more visitor-centered and accessible for diverse audiences. The document advocates for constructivist exhibitions that allow free choice, multiple entry points, and user-controlled learning. It also stresses the need for museums to recognize how social media and Web 2.0 can impact the physical museum experience and engage visitors wherever they are.
The document provides an analysis of how the environment of the New Museum supports different types of conversations that can help or hinder informal learning. It identifies four types of conversations that occur - learning dialogues, rhythms of conversations, hearing memories, and hearing lives. For each type, it provides examples from observations at the museum and discusses how the museum's design supports these conversations and their potential effects on learning, highlighting both benefits and challenges for informal learning. The analysis is part of conceptualizing a framework for understanding the museum's impact on visitors' learning.
This document summarizes activities from an intercultural education program that aim to help students get to know each other in a welcoming environment. The activities include using a frame and hats to introduce oneself at one's own pace, telling stories using Kamishibai cards, visiting families to work on creative door projects together, and sharing international cooking to build community. Reflections note the value of creative expression, communication in one's native language, appreciation of diversity, and time spent together to get closer.

1. These are masks that are hanging on the wall in the educational center. The theme for the
educational center was focusing on theatrical movements and work samples, therefore
masks definitely convey a message leading the hint. During the few minutes that I stayed in
front of the masks, seldom people looked up and noticed them.
2. On the table in middle of the educational center, there were booklets of artwork/ theatrical
works with synthesis and introduction. The introductions were printed black and white, image
were relatively small on the A4 paper. Sometimes it turns to be a little difficult to read into it
because of the layout and font size. Throughout the entire time I have stayed, there were no
group or individual stopping for the booklet. However, one of them were opened before I
started trying to read it.
3. This is a typical introduction about exhibitions at the New Museum. The text appears on the
wall (usually first thing that the visitors see) and no illumination were there. In cases like the
Pixel Forest, it became impossible to read the text. Throughout observation, many people
have tried to read into the text, however the long introduction seems to be a big commitment
that many people did not stay very long reading about it.
4. These two groups of people started looking out the window without trying to read anything
inside of the educational center. As they were talking, it showed that they were interested in
where the building physically locates and that they could see people on the street. The group
stayed longer than I did, they had conversations that outside of the context of the museum.
5. The stools were in shape of the lab the artist had. The couple in the photo stayed and
finished watching entire reel of video. Sitting on different stool it allows visitors to see
different parts of the hall --- to observe closer of particular part of the comic on the wall, read
about the artist, or watch the movie. After the the pair had left, a group of high school
students came in and took over the place as a hang out area. They grouped around the
6. stools and started talking about their daily life and school. They did not pay much attention
looking at the exhibition.
Many people on the floor stopped and stared at this comic, and more sat on the stool in
order to look at it closer/ longer. Some people took selfie with it, which is the new way of
interaction; rarely anyone came up close and touched the wall.
7. In this area, beds are provided for people to lay on to watch the video on the ceiling. Due to
the capacity, many people waited in the waiting area observing others already laying on the
bed; the ones got spots on the bed concentrated on the videos and most of them stayed
through the entire video. Everybody was quiet. They also tried to be slow and quiet taking off
their shoes or getting in/ out of the bed as well as having very light conversations.
8. This lighting installation caught my eyes as many people stopped to take photos. On the
opposite side of this wall, there is another corresponding saying as well. There were no
iteration about the light anywhere around, so most people just stopped for the picture. I have
overheard a few groups saying “That`s pretty cool” or “Hmmmm”, which I assume indicates
interest; many wanted to look around to check out what the expression meant but failed to
find them.
9. The semi-transparent curtain were project on with different images. The one in this photo
was plants; there were others of people, sea and etc. People enjoyed walking in between the
curtains, and some have been discussing about it trying to figure out the meaning.
10. This is a somewhat isolated public space for people to watch videos. It fits one person in at a
time, and many people have been intrigued by it. The content can be provocative or strong
in terms of graphic, some people did not stay through one video.
