This document outlines the "Success T.H.I.E.F." framework, which identifies 5 aspects that must be properly managed to prevent project failure: Time, Humility, Integration, Effort, and Focus. For each aspect, the document asks questions to help assess how to apply that aspect to a current project to ensure success.

3. Success T.H.I.E.F.:
An Introduction
We often steal success from ourselves. It may
be in our project scoping, or planning, or
execution. This slide set looks at 5 aspects
that when insufficient or poorly managed in
our projects function as a Success THIEF. We
need to ensure that we prepare in a way that
allows us to maintain our guard in these 5
aspects and guide our projects to success.

4. Success T.H.I.E.F.:
The 5 Aspects
• Time? Did you put in the time required?
• Humility? Were you willing to change?
• Integration? Did you integrate in your routine?
• Effort? Did you give the effort required?
• Focus? Did you provide enough?
5. T.H.I.E.F.: Time
One of the ways that we fail is through the time
that we invest in an idea or project. We may not
take the time to complete properly or allow ideas
to fully develop. Rarely do we have enough time
for all that we would like to do. We must make
choices and invest our time. To accomplish our
projects we must both invest and allow enough
time. What would be enough for your current
endeavor?
6. T.H.I.E.F.: Humility
Change for good requires humility. Why? It
takes humility to recognize that something is
amiss. It is also required to ask for help. Both of
these are usually required to accomplish
something of value. Many of us struggle with
this because it feels like we are admitting we are
wrong. What humility will your current project
require you to have?
7. T.H.I.E.F.: Integration
This is an often overlooked part of starting a
project. For most of us to do something self
managed for very long it needs to become a
habit. Integration is to make the time and effort
part of our daily routine so that it gets worked on.
This also includes tracking and progress
checks. How can you integrate your current
project into your daily routine?
8. T.H.I.E.F.: Effort
Sometimes our effort wains on a project. This
may be because of interest or fatigue. Without
proper effort we can never accomplish the goal.
For both interest and energy we need to assess
at the outset of our project if we will have
enough. We must set up the infrastructure to
ensure that we do not run short. We must also
have a recovery plan to get us back on track.
What effort will be required in this project?
9. T.H.I.E.F.: Focus
Focus requires priority and the ability to block or
remove distraction. Losing focus usually leads
to the other elements of T.H.I.E.F. and is a
hallmark of a failing project. We need to
recognize what allows us to focus and to ensure
that we are able to do it for the duration of the
project or regain if needed. How will you ensure
proper focus?
