2. Why did we choose this sub genre?
● We chose to promote the supernatural sub genre because it is the most
well known horror sub genre, therefore most people will be enthusiastic
about watching it. The supernatural sub genre is so popular because it
addresses unanswered questions about the afterlife.
● Also, when we did our target audience research, when answering our
questionnaire the audience seemed to prefer the supernatural sub-genre.
● For this reason, we aim to create a media product that will satisfy our
target audience. Although we based our decision around their preference,
the supernatural sub-genre is also our favourite, so it seemed the right
decision.

3. The Conjuring
● We looked at the film “The Conjuring” for inspiration. “The Conjuring” is a
popular film within the supernatural sub-genre. Although the storyline is
not very similar to ours, there are some elements that we chose to include
in our film. For example, it is based on a true story and so is our film. This is
conventional, as specifying the fact that it is based on a true story will
terrify the audience as it gives it a sense of realism. “The Conjuring” also
presents the story of a family that moves into a haunted house. Our film
also includes haunting. Furthermore, we believe that the trailer for “The
Conjuring” is very professional and it will attract a wide audience as it
doesn’t give away too much information about the film, but it gives away
enough to intrigue the audience.

5. Paranormal Activity
● We also looked at “Paranormal Activity” for inspiration. This film is also part
of the supernatural sub-genre. The elements we chose to include in our
film based on this film are the fact that it is a home-made video and the
fact that the audience will not be able to see the spirit that is causing the
events. The found footage feature intrigues us because it will give the
audience a sense of realism and they will be able to connect with the
characters as they will feel as if the events could be happening to them.
The fact that you cannot see the spirit creates mystery and tension as you
never know what to expect. It also gives a sense of realism, as it is believed
that spirits cannot be seen.
