The group has chosen to make a psychological thriller film. They will use handheld camera techniques inspired by films like Paranormal Activity. The film will focus on a businessman who spies on others through his camera without realizing he is being watched as well. The target audience is 15-35 years old. Marketing will include posters, magazines, and a teaser trailer. The film's branding features a hand in a lens. The estimated budget is ยฃ2,500. BBC Films and Optimum Releasing will serve as the production company.
2. Genre
The genre we have chosen is psychological Thriller.
A psychological thriller are features that relate to the
mind, usually mental or emotional then apposed to
physical in nature. It is a sub-genre of thriller and horror
and often involves mystery and the unknown.
4. Film Research
We looked at paranormal effect for the types of camera
angles used and the layout of the film. Weโve decided that
the hand held camera effect could be a good idea, as it
will be easier with the resources at college. This technique
gives us a wider range of camera angles in a single shot.
We also looked at Alfred Hitchcock because he was one
of the first directors to create thriller films and he was one
of the most famous directors for this genre of film. He has
produced some iconic films, such as Psycho and Rear
Window. Looking through his work has increased our
knowledge of this sub-genre and has given us inspiration
for our own project.
5. Target Audience.
Our chosen target audience is 15+
The reason we have chosen this age range is because
through internet research we have discovered that most
psychological thrillers have at least a 15+ certificate.
Through group discussions we have decided that mid 30โs
is a reasonable end age range as most films are targeted
at young adults rather than middle aged people.
However, a lot of older people enjoy physiological thrillers
are they are quite mind controlling, and mysterious.
6. Marketing.
We have decided to advertise our film through the use of
posters and magazine covers, as everyone seeโs
posters, and magazines are usually bought by young
adults or middle aged women, who we are trying to appeal
to.
โข We are also going to make a website advertising our film
as the web is popular to our target market as they grew up
with this technology.
โข We are going to create a teaser trailer showing quick
snippets of our film to gain our audienceโs interest in our
film.
7. Brief synopsis
Nigel, a rich business man, is watching the world through
his camera lense, but what he doesn'tโt know, whilst he's
watching the world โ the world is watching him.
8. Branding.
(Picture of branding)
We have decided to use the image of a hand reflection in
a lens as our branding image. This links to our film as the
whole film is based around a man with a
camera, watching people. Therefore this image represents
what he seeโs through his lens, at the end of the film.
Were using this as our end image in our teaser trailer, the
main image for our poster and for our film magazine cover
to create a โbrandโ image, so when people see this image
they link it to the film we are advertising.
9. Budget.
Paranormal activity 2 had a budget of $2,750,000.
We also looked at Paranormal Activity 3 which had an
estimated budget of $5,000,00
After looking at numerous films with similar
elements, such as a hand held camera, we have decided
to budget our film at.. ยฃ2,500, this is slightly lower than the
third paranormal activity movie as we donโt need as much
editing in our film because it is more physical, and less
paranormal type scenes are needed. This budget is
however higher than the first paranormal movie as part of
the film isnโt filmed through a handheld camera, and
therefore more expensive equipment is required.
10. Production company.
We have decided to go with BBC films and optimum
releases as our production company, as they are English
production companies who have created many thrillers
such as the 2010 version of โBrighton Rockโ which has a
similar budget to our film.
