Abstract
The importance of knowing yourself as a learner is to know your strengths and areas you can improve. After taking the MBTI assessment, I found
out that I am an ISFJ personality. ISFJ personality stands for Introverted, Sensing, Feeling, and Judging. I always thought I was a tactile learner,
however after taking the (What 's Your Learning Style? 20 Questions) assessment, I found out that I am a visual learner. It's also good to know the
location in which you focus the best, to retain all the information you learn to the best of your capability. . Upon completing the Study
Environment Analysis, I found that the perfect study environment for me is in my kitchen at the table, because this area is neat, clean and has the
least distractions. All of these assessments have been very informational for me in both my personal and professional life. This is going to better me as
a student by providing me the best learning experience possible for my degree and for any courses that I take for my career. I can incorporate these

Development of Self
The development of self starts at a very young age. When a preschooler is asked how are they different from other children, they usually look at their
self concept. Self concept is their identity, of their set of beliefs about what they are like as individuals. Most preschoolers give inaccurate statements
about their self concept. They usually overestimate their skills and knowledge. Preschool–age children also begin to develop a view of self that reflects

Children's views of self become more differentiated. As they get older, children discover that they may be good at some things and not so good at
others. Children's self– concepts become divided into personal and academic spheres. During middle childhood children begin social comparison.
Social comparison is the desire to evaluate one's own behavior, abilities, expertise, and opinions by comparing them to those of others. During middle
childhood children deal with the crisis industry versus inferiority stage. The stage is characterized by a focus on efforts to attain competence in
meeting the challenges presented by parents, peers, school, and other complexities of the modern world. This is a time of their life where the child
develops a self esteem. Self–esteem in an individual's overall and specific positive and negative self–evaluation. Self concept reflects beliefs and
cognitions about the self, self–esteem is more emotionally oriented. The self–esteem of most children tends to increase during middle childhood with a
brief decline around age of 12. Some evidence shows that members of minority groups have lower self–esteem then those of the majority group.
Children build a sense of self efficacy during their elementary years. Self efficacy refers to learned expectations that one is capable of carrying out a
behavior or producing a desired outcome in a particular situation.

Describe yourself as a student and also your aspirations for the future. Please include examples from your personal academic and non–academic
experiences.
A sophomore at Downtown Magnets High School, I demonstrate passion in my education, ambition in fulfilling my personal and academic goals, and
am an explorative student. My passion for learning is the result of my mindset, in that aside from finding education a necessity, it is enjoyable,
challenging, and beneficial in fulfilling my future aspirations. For example, I find my Honors Advanced Mathematics class my most unique course. It
builds upon my ability to critically think, present data or information, and understand higher–level math at a rapid pace. In particular, it is the ability to
solve real–world situations and the underlying mystery mathematicians have yet to solve that intrigues me to continue learning. The class expects
much of me, but I am aware that it is preparing me for college– and university–level math while providing me with the skills to pursue a career in
Architectural/ Structural Engineering. Ambitious, I set objectives for myself and arrange to accomplish and excel in the process. For instance, I
participated in my middle school's academic decathlon with a chance to represent my school in the mathematics single–subject exam. In doing so, I
attempted to score a near perfect to perfect score. While the competition did not end the way I expected, I successfully gained a flawless score on the

The Self Every situation that an individual is exposed to throughout life, helps mold our "self." As humans we have the ability to see ourselves from
the outside, and all through life we try to see what others see and our "self" revolves around the generalized other. We observe how others perceive us
and we make conclusions depending on our observations. How we act around others depends on the image we feel they have towards us.

make concerning the reactions of others we develop feelings and ideas about ourselves. The reflection we see in the mirror is either negative or
positive depending on the feedback we get back from those around us. Misjudgments of the reactions of others become part of our "self" concept also
the misinterpretations of how others think of us. Self concepts begins in childhood but it continues to develop throughout life. As we observe how
other people react to us, we modify our "self."
The "self" is never a finished project, and it continues to change as our life takes different turns. Our "self" reacts to the environment that we are in. As
the "self" expands we put together the different reactions making us a unique individual. Every individual has a different way of thinking and therefore

I believe it is important for any student who wants to do their best in a class to take a moment to evaluate their own work to determine the rate their
writing is progressing and how they can continue to advance their writing. When I looked through my own work I asked myself "what have I learned

I have struggled with writer's block with often. In the past, I've learned to take breaks while writing to help alleviate symptoms of writers block;
however, during the semester I have learned to carry a pad of paper with me so that I can write down idea's while they are fresh in my mind.
Writing down my thoughts has helped me avoid writers block because I have a list of thoughts about the subject before I have even started
writing. When I struggle less to write it improves my essay's by decreasing my stress, this can be seen in my writing. I was afflicted with writer's
block while trying to write both my compare and contrast essay and my description essay, this caused me a lot of stress and caused my essay to
suffer. On the other hand, when I wrote my classify and divide essay I did not have to deal with writer's block. As a result the stress level was greatly
decreased and the improvement is substantial.
Although my writing has made some good progress during the course of this semester, I still some things I need to learn in order to keep improving
my writing. Grammar, writing in an active voice, and building my rewrite skills are three examples of skills I need to build upon to continue to
improve me writing.

The self–discipline required to be an academically successful college student is at a much higher level than that of the required self–discipline of a high
school student. Fortunately, I attended a private Catholic high school that prepares its students very well for college. The age gap between a senior in

The students are on a very time oriented schedule. Schedules are the same each day and if a student does not make it to class on time or come at
all, these mistakes are sometimes punishable. In college, if someone is late to classes or do not show up at all, the student misses out and grades
will suffer. Professors more or less do not care if a student show up or not. In the end, not showing up only effects the student. If you fall behind in a
class because you have poor attendance they consider it unfortunate and expect the student to find a way to catch up on work. Faculty will rarely tell
students to come to class. The schedule may be different for each day of the week and a student is expected to be responsible enough to keep up with
the schedule and all of the classwork.
While in high school, the goal is to receive a general understanding of different subjects so when you enroll in college, you will be able to narrow
down your interests. A college curriculum may differentiate greatly from a high school curriculum. When in college, most students have a general
understanding of what they might like to focus on as a potential career so their courses reflect that. Some college students might have absolutely no
idea what they want to do, but that is okay.

Self-Reflective Essay
During the course of the quarter, I feel that I have progressed somewhat. I've gained a lot of knowledge on rhetorical strategies and how to present
arguments effectively. In the writings I have written, I feel that each writing works towards meeting the course goals. Logos, ethos, and pathos were
strategies and ideas we were introduced to (if not already in the past) and were built upon throughout the quarter. The knowledge gained over the
course of the quarter weren't only those three types of appeals. Rhetorical strategies like proposals helped reinforce the course and using rhetorical

. ." (Ngo Autobio 4). Also, I addressed one the course goal in revising my writing and using feedback to help facilitate this. In this paper alone, I
feel that I have made some progress in the course (mainly using logos, ethos, and pathos as a rhetorical strategy in this paper). My second pieces of
writings (two proposals) reflected my progress in the ability to to use feedback and revise my writings which was a course goal. In this case, many
rhetorical strategies were employed. Revisions weren't as simple as changing grammar and using correct punctuation (although that was something that
helped me grow as a writer). A change of style was implemented from my "Cornell–styled Box Project Proposal #1" to my revision. I also used
feedback I received to rewrite many parts of my rewrite. Effectively using feedback has helped me move towards the course goals since revisions
were never my strong point. This usually was because I never needed to do many revisions in high school and especially since high school was much
easier than now. Also, I progressed enough to understand how to use the pathos in one text and turn it into something entirely different yet arguing the

Personal Self Assessment Essay
Self assessment is a process in which you examine yourself in attempt to discover and learn more about yourself. Your likes, dislikes, behaviors,
attitudes and habits can be found during this process. You can use the discoveries to your advantage by accepting or changing strengths and
weaknesses. I plan on using this course to enhance my personal skills to become a better student and find success in earning my Bachelor of Arts

I have discovered some interesting things I have noticed in myself before taking this course. For example, my learning style I have noticed is the visual
learning style.
With this, I prefer to see and read information to full gain comprehension. If I forget the data, or not clearly understand it the first time read, I have
the option of reading it over. I do not always trust myself to absorb all information the first time around. I take a lot of notes to look at. Notes help me
remember even though I may not read the again, I can refer to them in my mind after writing them down. I am not sure if just anyone reading them
would get anything out of it, but at least I know what they mean.
I like to take my time with material, but am not always given the allotted time to do so. I also like to keep a written list of things to do to refer to. I
am comfortable with my learning style, accepted it as my very own. I am not sure if changing it this late in life is such a good idea. I have got by this
far, it must work out for me.
I have identified my personality style as being extroverted, one who becomes easily energized by others, and outwardly expressing thoughts as long
as I am fully understanding context and material being discussed. If I have no idea what is being addressed, I am better of keeping quiet to save
