This document summarizes student activism in the 1960s compared to today. In the 1960s, a counterculture movement arose in San Francisco characterized by peaceful protest, environmentalism, and rejection of social norms. Students actively protested the Vietnam War through marches, sit-ins, strikes, and teach-ins. Four students were shot and killed at Kent State University in 1970 during an anti-war protest. Today, fewer students are aware of or actively protesting wars, with only around 50% voting compared to 60% in the 1960s. The document encourages renewed student activism and lists organizations to get involved with.
