Editor's Notes

  1. Stress in our bodies produces an immunologic response. When we perceive a stressor our sympathetic nervous system begins to prepare itself for fight or flight by releasing cortisol and adrenaline. Our immune system heightens because we need to be able to fight it off whether or not it is a pathogen. When the event has passed our immune system begins to suppress itself back to baseline where it waits for its next threat. If we are still dealing with the stressor then our immune system won't stop suppressing itself and will continue to plummet into true immunosuppression. This is where we start to see diseases like cancer and pneumonias begin to develop because of the lack of Immune system. Negative stressors could include the loss of a job, going through a divorce, and even awful living situations. Through perception each one of these stressors can be seen in a positive way. When negative stress persists, that is when we begin to see the effects on the immune system (Myers 284).
  2. 1. Classes on stress management that teach what stress is and how to better cope with it. Other positive methods include exercise, meditation, yoga, or even seeing a counselor once a week. Identification of stressors: notice your stressors and take methods to prevent and discard things that will increase stress.
  3. When we all are stressed, as we are the future generation, we all will not be as successful in every field as expected. When stress overtakes ones body, it can put enough pressure on them to remain constantly unhealthy, chronically chronically ill. More open to heart disease, cancer etc. Life expectancy will most likely decrease with the increase of stress
