This document discusses strengthening hospital information systems in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. It outlines the current status of hospital information systems in countries across different income levels in the region, from rudimentary paper-based systems to more advanced interconnected systems. The main challenges to effective hospital information systems are identified as infrastructure, financing, integration, standards and data quality, analytical capacity, and data use. The document proposes developing a regional strategy and technical guidelines to help countries improve their national hospital information systems and better generate, share, and use health data.
