1. Brief description of the tool
Storybird is an excellent way to get your students enthusiastically writing. The imaginative
artwork will have your students creating stories in no time. Storybird stories are meant to be
collaborative. Students can work together in teams to create stories. This type of learning through
play reminds me of the “lets pretend” stories that students create on the playground.
Students will feed off of each others ideas, creating more creative stories and learning
together. Storybird is also a fantastic place to create a classroom story, each student can
contribute pages to the story. The final product can be easily shared with families and friends in
the online library. Storybird can be used by teachers to make ‘special’ stories for students.
They can include students as characters, emphasize classroom themes or curriculum, and be
created for specific reading levels. Encourage your students to create and share their stories
on Storybird.
2. Requirements/prerequisites
- Internet access
- ICT Proficiency for teachers/ Level of difficulty: easy

3. Getting started
Step 1: Go to http://www.storybird.com/ and select “Sign up”

Step 2: Select either Regular user or Kid (under 13) user. Create Username, Password, and select
“Create your Account”.
Step 3: Next you will need to go to your email address to confirm your account. The email will
contain a link, which will bring you back to Storybird already logged in.

Step 4: The link sent in the email will bring you to this page. Select “Jump in!” to start creating
your book.
Step 5: Select an artist. Select “Hierarchy of Music”

Step 6: Here we get a chance to see some artworks. Select “Start a Storybird”.
Step 7: This is the storymaker. Drag illustrations onto the canvas, & then write the story in the text
boxes. You can add additional pages at the bottom.

Step 8: When you finish, select “Menu” & then “Publish this Storybird”
Step 9: Before publishing you can write a short summary of the book and select appropriate age
range. Make sure to set the story to “Public”. Then select “Publish”.

Step 10: You have now finished and published a Storybird!

- Language competences: Both organizational and functional knowledge
- Other skills: Thinking and reasoning, creativity, self-direction, emotional development,
communication, collaboration, responsibilities and ethics, tech. skills, etc.

  • 4. Step 6: Here we get a chance to see some artworks. Select “Start a Storybird”. Step 7: This is the storymaker. Drag illustrations onto the canvas, & then write the story in the text boxes. You can add additional pages at the bottom. 4
  • 5. Step 8: When you finish, select “Menu” & then “Publish this Storybird” Step 9: Before publishing you can write a short summary of the book and select appropriate age range. Make sure to set the story to “Public”. Then select “Publish”. 5
