A message is a request sent from one object to another to perform an action. It consists of a receiver, selector, and arguments. The receiver is the object receiving the message. The selector identifies the method to be called. Methods are defined by specifying the selector, arguments, and method body. Classes are defined by specifying the superclass, instance variables, and methods. Everything in Smalltalk is an object that communicates through message passing.
