Series jesus is -______ - message – part 3 - jesus is our friend – sunday...LifePointe Church
This message is Part 3 in Pastor Chuck Bernal's series, "JESUS is _____________". The message is titled, "JESUS is your Friend". Pastor Chuck discusses how the religious leaders of the day criticized Jesus for befriending "bad" people and how Jesus revealed what God is truly like by showing grace, mercy, love and forgiveness to everyone - no matter what they had done. The message has a two-fold purpose: 1. To show that Jesus loves us just as we are and 2. To show we must have the same mindset and attitude toward others that Jesus had. This message was delivered at LifePointe Church on Sunday, March 6, 2016.
Mary in the Christmas story is faithful and obedient to the call of God. Her immediate experience of that is rejection by family, friends and neighbours ... even Joseph!
Literally, one invitation given to someone to explore Jesus, can change their lives forever. This is the simplest and easiest way for all of us to engage in winning souls and making disciples. We share some practical thoughts on how to extend and invitation and pray for people to encounter Jesus.

David livingstone - Missionary / Explorer presentationgavinmart
This is a fun presentation by Gavin Mart on Dr David Livingstone which can also be accompanied by a detailed essay concerning the life and times of the missionary explorer.
----
David Livingstone was born on March 19th 1813 in Blantyre, Scotland. In his childhood he followed his father door to door who giving out evangelical tracts; Livingstone would also use this opportunity to sell tea showing early his signs of enterprise. In 1823 Livingstone started work in cotton mill. Again, he would use the tedium of the labour to teach himself Latin by mounting a book he had bought on one of the factory’s giant machines and reading single lines of it between shuttle runs beneath the machines.
Although he strove to be a doctor his father was adamant that he would only work for the church and in 1838 he was accepted by London Missionary Society (LMS) for work in China. However in 1839 the start of Opium War (which lasts until 1842) makes China missions impracticable.
In 1840 a chance meeting with Robert Moffat in London persuades Livingstone to work in Africa. Livingstone qualifies as doctor, and is ordained as minister. He is enchanted by Moffat’s tales of Kuruman, a missionary outpost in South Africa, where Moffat speaks of “... the smoke of a thousand villages...” Livingstone sets sail for Kuruman in 1841. However on his arrival he becomes disillusioned with what he finds at the Kuruman outpost, and describes it as little more than an imitation of an English countryside villages with little for than fifty converts, most of whom are ‘backsliders’...
-----
...In summary; I feel Livingstone was a man of his time, who fought against the traditional idea and structures of the role of the African missionary. He was operating in front of a background of multiple civil wars in the West, and a scramble for land, power, gold, exploration and discovery, within which he found himself in a position that demanded that he possessed a little knowledge of each of those ingredients in order for him to be successful in his time. I think he fell in love with the continent of Africa and did whatever he could to fund his occupation; to be in and develop and explore the place he would ultimately die for. I wonder if he became a little disillusioned with his traditional missional commission, and found his faith tested throughout the pain of losing his first born and his wife to fever and his oldest son to overseas war. In which case I can only sympathise with his vocation and what is really a sad story of failed ambition and endeavour. This is perhaps why David Livingstone lives on in the hearts

Exodus 13-15: The journey into the wilderness for Israel began with powerful demonstrations to Jehovah's power and love for his people, yet the people still struggled with fear and unbelief. Three lessons are drawn from this for our growth: 1) from defiance of the world to rebellion against Jehovah; 2) from rebelling to faith; and, 3) faith leads to praise

The Unbaptized Arm
There is a story told about Ivan the Great who ruled Russia as Czar in the 15th century. He was a
warrior, a fighter, and a conqueror of kingdoms. The Soviet Union as we knew it a few years ago was
basically put into place by Ivan the Great. Ivan was so busy doing battle that some of his comrades
became concerned because he hadn't taken time to get married and have a family. They came to him
http://privatetutoring.co/ and said "You've got to get married because you've got to have an heir to
the throne." But Ivan said "I want to do battle and to conquer more territory, you go find a wife for
me." So they did. Ivan's men found a wife for him from the daughter of the king of Greece , a
beautiful girl. They said to Ivan, "We found a wife for you, but there's one problem." "What's that?"
he asked.
"If you're going to marry her, you have to be Greek Orthodox," they said.
Ivan the Great said, "Well, if you think she'd make a good wife for me, that's no problem, I could be
Greek Orthodox." The king of Greece was thrilled with this because it meant that Ivan wasn't going
to invade his territory. So the Greeks sent tutors to Russia to tutor Ivan and 500 of his elite soldiers,
everyone a great warrior. The soldiers required tutoring because Ivan said, "If I'm going to be Greek
Orthodox, they're going to be Greek Orthodox."
They tutored all these men in the Greek Orthodox faith and finally Ivan and the soldiers went down
to Greece for the wedding. But before the marriage they had to be baptized into the Greek Orthodox
church. It was an incredible sight as thousands of people came to watch Ivan the Great and his 500
soldiers all wade into the water at one time to be baptized by immersion into their new church. 500
soldiers with full armor and 500 Greek Orthodox priests were standing in the blue water of the
Mediterranean Sea for the baptism, when all of a sudden the king of Greece said, "We've got a
problem." The problem was that in the Greek Orthodox church you could not be a warrior and a
member of the church at the same time. So they held a hastily-called diplomatic meeting in the
water to ask, "How are we going to work this out?" They came up with a simple answer. Just before
the priests immersed the soldiers, each man took out his sword, held it high above the water, and
allowed the priest to baptize everything but his sword arm.
This came to be known as "the unbaptized arm."
There are many Christians today who have unbaptized checkbooks. They have dedicated every part
of their life to God except their money. As someone has said, "The last thing to be converted is our
3. pocketbook."
