The document describes an app called ElementWizard aimed at students preparing for exams to study elements and the periodic table. It aims to provide reliable and detailed information about elements in an easy-to-use format. The app would allow users to view information about individual elements, combine elements, and balance equations. It is intended to be cheaper and more useful than existing periodic table apps that crash often or lack sufficient information.

Simon Grant: Skills and competences reinvigorating the e-portfolio landscapeUniversity of Nottingham
The document discusses the potential for e-portfolios and digital badges to transform credentialing by allowing learners to present evidence of skills obtained both inside and outside of formal educational institutions. It suggests that e-portfolios could provide richer evidence than certificates and CVs, and that a badge-based credentialing system could help learners get noticed by employers. Finally, it indicates that developing common standards for learning outcomes and competencies could help integrate these new forms of credentialing.

Placements Administration, Placements Learning and the P3 Project - Webinar P...University of Nottingham
Employability is a key priority for students and educational institutions. In today’s competitive market, an increasing number of institutions recognise the potential of placements and work experience to help their students secure a good job following their course. For institutions, managing the placement processes efficiently across the board can be a challenge as the placement lifecycle touches upon employer engagement, student learning, administration and tracking and more.
At the University of Nottingham, the CIePD have been working with placements professionals to introduce technology into aspects of this lifecycle and would like to share examples of our practice and tools with others in the Higher Education and Further Education sector.

ePortfolios for Employability: Promoting Career Learning through Business Engagement - presentation at ALT-C 2012, Wedneday 12th September @ 9am - Paper 40
SHED explored the practicalities of a ‘student-employer’ matching service which would enhance employability learning and serve practical requirements, such as, employers accessing university resources, students finding opportunities in the workplace and institutions learning more about the marketplace.
Placement activity does not occur in isolation. It involves administration, teaching and learning, employability, networking, business engagement and more. The relationships between staff, students, departments, businesses and administrators are crucial in providing joined up communication, sharing of best practice, and effective management of the whole placement experience for students.

ESCAPES, e-Portfolio and Employability - can e-Portfolios support retention? ...University of Nottingham
The document summarizes a session on how ePortfolios can support student placement experiences and employability. It discusses how ePortfolios can help track student progress, provide feedback, and develop skills to support career outcomes and potentially increase retention. Studies presented found ePortfolios helped keep placement students engaged with their institution and motivated. They also improved communication between students, staff and employers. Evidence suggests ePortfolio activities that build community and engagement can positively impact retention by enhancing the student experience.
Employability and efficiency are key drivers for UK Higher Education Institutions in light of current Government Higher Education policy and the economic context. At the same time, Universities are challenged with responding to student demands in a competitive HE marketplace. How can these be reconciled to safeguard value-added services for students?
The University of Nottingham’s Centre for International ePortfolio Development SAMSON project is sharing services to promote student employability and to streamline how information is shared between students, universities and employers for the benefit all.
This presentation will describe three pilots which address communication and collaboration between the parties involved in work placement and Career and Professional Development to demonstrate how a more joined-up and satisfactory experience can be realised for students, employers, academics and administrators.
From bottom-up to top-down: ploughing a middle furrow through the institution...University of Nottingham
ePortfolios are not new to Nottingham: a number of pilot projects were run by one of the University’s HEFCE-funded Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. In addition, the CIePD has carried out project work around ePortfolios and ePortfolio processes which more recently has included successful pilots within the institution. This presentation charts the journey of ePortfolio use at the University of Nottingham.
Into the Void: Change as a Catalyst, presenting new opportunities to embed e-...University of Nottingham
In times of challenging educational and technological change, there exist opportunities for ePortfolio processes to gain mainstream adoption. This paper considers how ePortfolio’s central processes can deliver increasingly relevant technologies for individuals progressing through work and education, and how ePortfolio-activities may be on the cusp of being truly mainstreamed through evolutions in education, personalised technology, social media and open data.
